Ideal Home Reviews

Feb 15, 2025

This movie became a favorite of mine the first time I watched it! I shared it with everyone… and the light hearted friends, down to earth not take life or movies too seriously.. loved it! It’s really funny!! And an easy watch.. and honestly really heart warming! Maybe best to those who come from a broken home and aren’t serious movie critics! Steve Coogan is always a delight and Paul Rudd hits it home! This movie should have a way better rating! I loved it!

I had to Taco some time to think about this but I Bellieve there was a lot of product endorsement in this.

While the lead characters are terribly cliched, the movie gets by on it's heartwarming and socially aware story.

I find this movie so satisfying to watch. It's one of my go-to rewatch favorites. I think it's because the characters and situations feel so real and in some cases very personally relatable, even as a cis het middle aged white woman. The performances are just perfection. I also have a mid-30s guy friend that I discovered loves this movie as well, we both have it on DVD. It's a great option for Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd fans (and Jesk fans aka Jake McDorman). The only downside to me is the marketing and art, I can't stand it. The "These Dads Suck" looks like it's the movie title which is confusing on it's own. But worse, it makes it seem like some dude comedy like American Pie or The Hangover, and it's not that vibe at all. Sharp-witted dark humor is not the same as being "edgy". It really does the movie a disservice and I think has skewed audience expectations and probably contributed to it getting lower ratings.

I really enjoyed this film - ok its corny/cheesy but its a bit of silly fun. The pompous-ness of Erasmus I found amusing and I thought Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd gave good performances. There's nothing complicated about this film - its an easy, entertaining watch, although it does feature sex references and some strong language and its about a gay couple, so its not suitable for youngsters but I enjoyed it. I get the feeling that both of the main leads, Coogan and Rudd, didn't take their characters especially seriously and I found myself laughing alongside them - laughing with them, not necessarily at them, which is a good thing. Its hardly entirely original or amazing but its certainly worth a watch.

A very sweet queer film! Have loved Paul Rudd for years and his involvement in queer cinema. If you love Paul Rudd, must watch! But also, it's just a very sweet film, it has its comedic scenes, but at the center of it all, it really speaks to the lost queer child in me, that is trying to navigate love & being a grown up. Trying to navigate adulthood and what that means…children, a partner…responsibilities, a new chapter…what a beautiful film. 😩😭😭😭😭💕💕

I like Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan. They did a good job with this story. A bit of fun and a bit of drama.

i'm surprised at how much i enjoyed this one; i was anticipating it to be a bit funnier than it was, but it wasn't a bad watch at all. found out that Paul Rudd is incredibly good looking with a beard & a cowboy hat; i just love him.

This movie Ideal Home is funny but it is a little funny. When I watched this I expected it to be alot more funnier. But I still liked the movie as a watch alone movie (Not that watch alone movies are bad or anything). I also thought the casting was great also and how the actors portrayed their characters. I would recommend a movie to a friend, not my parents or relatives.

When you've got Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan, you know it's going to be funny. It didn't try too hard like some comedies, staying within natural parameters. I enjoyed it start to finish and would certainly recomend it.

Ageless hunk Paul Rudd (Clueless) and Steve Coogan (Philomena) star as an older gay couple who suddenly inherit a child. The child belongs to Coogans a.k.a Erasmus son played by sexy Jake McDorman (Greek) after being arrested. They live an R rated lifestyle but it's hilarious to watch them curb their ways and form a bond. It's not a wholly original concept but it's never been explored in this context. And that's definitely a plus because it's nice to see films of this context being explored with an lgbtq couple. It's hilarious, genuine and heartfelt. Rudd and Coogan are magic and it's all overly entertaining. 8.5/10

The dialogue is campy but well done. There are elements of reality interspersed with lots of camp silliness. I got a kick out of it!

Ideal Home is a funny little film led by some good performances. The script itself does feel a little bit outdated as it focuses a little bit too much on homosexual clichés that I’ve seen for many years. It’s a simple story but has a few light laughs and it’s an easy watch. Nothing about the film is groundbreaking and not all the jokes work but it’s a nice little film to watch if you’re a fan of the cast. The constant Taco Bell advertisements do get old though.

Surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie because it was a rental while traveling. Found myself constantly laughing. Character's real, life experiences real, responses real. Clever, witty. Loved it!

Are all Taco Bell adverts this long? It was OK, but Steve Coogan's character was a mess. Totally unconvincing.
