Identity Reviews

Apr 24, 2025

A fun romp & cast. I wasn't expecting to enjoy, but did. They throw in loads of twists & turns that you would & wouldn't expect. Dark & rainy throughout, so good to be in the mood for that...which would be my only criticism.

I lost attention quickly, maybe if the start should have been better

You kind of know that one of the characters isn't who they say they are, but it's still fun to watch to see if you can figure it all out. I liked it

I watched this on DVD recently, over two decades after it's release. It's one of those films which makes me question what the industry is all about, and what a film is actually meant to be. If the aim is to produce a work which can hold the attention of an audience for it's runtime this film is a resounding success. My focus was completely captivated for it's entire 90 minutes which is much more than many films can accomplish. However, this film is not at all straightforward, and is riddled with layered twists and turns which made my head ache. Despite watching every single minute, I really could not describe the story in a way which would make sense. I come away trying to resolve a plot which I strongly supect does not have a solution at all, and has been deliberately crafted using pieces which don't quite fit in order to tease the viewer. So my question remains, is this a work of cinematic genius, or is it just a frustrating disjointed mess? My opinion leans more towards the former, because it kept me focussed and made me think. I do recommend it, although you should expect to be confused at the end.

This was a psychological thriller of the best type. There is plenty of opportunity for you to nominate the "bad guy" and while you may be right in a sense you will probably also be wrong. The ending is a real shocker - and I suspect that the typical reaction of many viewers is to say "No way" - but if you think about it, it is the only possible ending. But you have to think about it - and the film is so action-filled that you never have time. SO the realization must come after the closing credits roll.

The writer probably thought he had a clever idea for a movie with a great twist. I found it quite stupid and unsatisfying. For one thing it's not very well executed. Lots of shouting and hysteria. Lots of crazy stuff going on like a child seeing both his parents run over in separate incidents on the same night. Or a killer who has magical abilities that would rival Santa Claus - as in not only managing to kill people, unseen, but come back later to disappear the bodies, and completely clean up blood splattered rooms, again unseen and in no time at all. Then there's the acting or lack of it, veering between strangely muted or over the top. Fans of this movie will say all this oddness is explained by the twist, the trouble is the twist is comical.

The film's perspective is false, you watch it thinking one thing, and in the end the director and creator scares you, giving another perspective, only a true one. And in the end I didn't understand it well.

It is ridiculous how satisfying this psychological horror is. The astonishing big reveal is probably the most staggering scene of exposition since the ending of “Psycho”, and it certainly doesn’t stop there. Incredible.

Although some twists are visible from space, others will leave you guessing. Big names give really good performances and overall play well together. It’s worth a watch if you like murder mystery and plot twists by the dozen.

It holds up good acting and story. The twists it takes it earns.

One of my favorite psychological/suspense films. The cast is absolutely stellar and knock their roles out of the park. The story draws you in so well, that even knowing what's really going on and what's going to happen doesn't stop me from rewatching it at least once a year.

My God does it fall apart right at the end...

🍅 7.8/10 I jokingly said out load it must be the kid. A pretty twisty ride that's definitely emphasis on twisty but a fast paced murder, mystery, slasher that keeps you guessing I wouldn't skip on it. Grade B+

Great movie, although it was confusing at times, and so was the ending. But the ending fits the movie because it was unexpected and unusual. Must see!

Good ‘Sit on the edge of your seat' film.

First hour really captivating, then it threw me off, I nearly turned it off, kept at it, then it swung back round and brought me back. Twists and turns. Enjoyable though

In the years following 9/11, Hollywood went all in on escapism, to the detriment of quality storytelling, as evidenced by this movie. For about two thirds of it's runtime, Identity is an exceptional psychological thriller. The mood, pacing and atmospherics are all spot on. Then comes the big twist. One of the most ridiculous plot contrivances to feature in a mainstream film. Pity, because a cast of this calibre deserved so much better.

This movie is effective until the third act, at which point it becomes hopelessly stupid.
