Bar Bahar Reviews
Another movie that over represents a pitiful minority attempting to dominate our culture. Keep the muslims out of America and away from our democracy.
It is a film about modern, young Palestinian women living in Tel Aviv and their battle with their conservative, traditional, male dominated culture. It offers lots to think about. A really good film. Terrific actors.
I didn't see a plot line until I was well into the movie. I'd put the rape and misogynistic behavior up front and then resolve these in grained lifestyles.
Don’t miss this one!
I saw this in Paris several months ago and can’t wait to see it again in NY! Fabulous actors and story.
The impossible gap between modern western life and a traditionalist society young arab women experience in Israel is portrayed in this realistic film with a strong and skillfull hand and a great eye for nuances. This film does not bore for a second, and even manages to keep a light tone while dealing with heavy topics.
This movie is perfect and deserves to be seen by any who can track it down. It's only in a few theaters, but even if you have to wait for it to be released on DVD go see 'In Between'. It's in Arabic and Hebrew with English subtitles, and comes from the mind of Arab Israeli filmmaker Maysaloun Hamoud. It's her maiden feature and despite being released way back in 2016, has just now made it's way to America. It's about the life of three ladies, unique, but similar who bond. It's about friendship and love and being who you are and it's great. Final Score: 10/10
To be honest, I am not the right person to see this movie. Before I viewed this film, I had a pretty simple opinion of the Israeli crisis. The Palestinians sold the country, they accepted money. The country was built by Jews, and Jews defended it with their blood, so this to me is a story of three Palestinians living in a country made free and successful by non Palestinians. But I wanted to see if I could be convinced of something else. I need not have bothered. So people who think differently might very well enjoy the film. I can say that besides political grandstanding there is not much more to offer. Its not real funny, or touching, and you are unlikely to connect to these ladies.
This film may have one or two rough edges, but Wow! The performances by the three lead women are fabulous and, overall, the film is absolutely captivating. The bathroom scene where Laila and Salma look after Noor is hauntingly beautiful and has stayed with me since. If this is the debut for Maysaloun Hamoud, I'm looking forward to the next few years.
Brilliant, insightful and redflctive film sensitively showing a new dimenison of three twenty something Palestinian girls living in tel Aviv. Seriously well made and enjoyable
