Audience Member Formulaic and predictable, yes. Beautifully shot, and a music score to match? Also, yes! Pastiche, certainly, but not to the point you stop watching. With due distinctions, it didn't happen to me since "All That Jazz" (Bob Fosse, 1979). And when Kristin Scott Thomas wants to go back to the pulp junk, she will always find the Refn of "Only God Forgives" (2013) ready to welcome her.
