Formulaic and predictable, yes. Beautifully shot, and a music score to match? Also, yes! Pastiche, certainly, but not to the point you stop watching. The direction is strong, and the acting is good

Caricatural jusqu'au trognon, rempli de clichés imaginaires qui montrent que Ludovic Bernard n'a jamais mis les pieds dans un conservatoire et ne connaît pas grand chose à la musique.

Kristin Scott Thomas as piano teacher is a scene stealer and reminded me of J. K. Simmons in Whiplash. There are no other good things to say about this movie. 5/10

The fusion of Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff with the Groove Armada of "Hands of Time" and, above all, the Pixies of "Where Is My Mind?" is ingenious. The beauty of this film does not consist in its alleged consolatory effect, but in reminding us how music can express any moment of life, every existential instant. With due distinctions, it didn't happen to me since "All That Jazz" (Bob Fosse, 1979). And when Kristin Scott Thomas wants to go back to the pulp junk, she will always find the Refn of "Only God Forgives" (2013) ready to welcome her.

Very enjoyable movie, though a bit predictable. Kind of like Le Brio but with plenty of good music.

Vraiment formidable !
Les acteurs principaux etaient très talentueux et precisement Jules Benchetrit, comme Mathieu, a depasse des acteurs qui sont connus pour la sensation qu'ils montrent en scène.
