Isn't It Romantic Reviews
Genuinely hilarious.
I'm not usually a rom-com fan but this one is funny because of Rebel Wilson, it's really fun. Wish they chose someone other than Adam DeVine, (he's so irritating) but the screenplay and acting is good, this is a worthwhile movie.
I watched it with my teenage daughter and it was so fun, from start to finish. I'm not a big rom com fan, but this movie subverts the genre, which then allows it to take all the tropes WAY over the top in an enjoyable way. It's also able to sneak genuine feeling in through the side door. I didn't expect like this as much as I did. Rebel Wilson is a delight.
It was alright, a simple enough rom com. Plus Rebel Wilson usually adds her own style of crazy to almost every role. Definitely a good date night movie.
It's ok to pass the time…
I don't actually know what kind romantic comedies this movie is trying to spoof and I don't think the people who made the movie do either.
Corny, nothing happened. Only funny part was "beguiled".
"Isn't It Romantic" is a romantic comedy that pokes fun at the genre's tropes while also celebrating them. Rebel Wilson delivers a charming and hilarious performance as the lead character, Natalie, who finds herself trapped in a romantic comedy world after a freak accident. The film's witty humor and clever satire make for an enjoyable and entertaining watch that will leave you smiling. While it may not break new ground, "Isn't It Romantic" is a fun and lighthearted film that is perfect for fans of the genre.
I was laughing almost all parts of the movie sans the end dancing part. I think the Karaoke scene is already enough of a musical spectacle. Overall, the movie is hilarious.
Funny and romantic . Love the cast
While I Generally Find Rebel Wilson A Good Comic Actor, Her Work Doesn't Push The Limit Towards Greatness..Even Her Own Sense Of Timing Is Bland & A Bit Off Here In Particular.
Light, entertaining, and enjoyable. Any time spent looking at Liam Hemsworth is a great time. Liam is a gorgeous man and the energy & interaction between him & Rebel Wilson was really good.
This was good for some chuckles. It's definitely on the silly side of things … those sorts of things are good for me now and then.
I give this movie 1 star for bad schooling. But it's very entertaining if you don't let yourself be influenced easily. The story idea is simple but brilliantly put together. Until the end when a twist happens and the main protagonist learns the lesson that no one should learn: "You must be selfish to be happy". Ironically after embracing that new selfish personality, she loses all the reasons why the male protagonist was in love with her in the first place. But they get together anyway. Truth is, we know that he's going to be disappointed because of her new personality, and their love story will end before it even begins. But that part of the story is not included in the movie. Rather it ends with the lie: "and they lived happily ever after".
I started this movie on a plane and didn't make it through, as this was before I discovered my lack of interest in Rebel Wilson, despite hearing good things about her. The lack of any kind of chemistry in this movie between the characters is too apparent to ignore. Adam DeVine can act, but cannot act out any believable romantic longing toward the almost asexual Rebel Wilson. The only comparison I can think of is Ellen Degeneres in a wedding dress in "Mr. Wrong" (1996), where no amount of acting could convince anyone to suspend their disbelief. The premise of this film was interesting enough to get me to try it, and maybe it'll be enough to hook you too, but, it probably helps if you are trapped somewhere with no better entertainment options, or...not really paying attention to the film at all.
'Isn't It Romantic', while being a gorgeously directed film with a talented cast, fails in the comedy department. While the romance portion is there and the film has a great message about self-love, the film is full of comedic stars who don't give everything they've got. Rebel Wilson does a decent job as the lead, but after amazing performances in 'Pitch Perfect' and 'Bridesmaids', it feels like she held back here, maybe this wasn't the lead role for her. All in all, the film is entertaining enough for the run time. If you're a fan of any of the cast, sure, give it a chance.
Me and my now wife went to see this for a movie night. I have been to several movies at the theater. Seen some very bad ones and some master pieces. But this is the first one, where I could genuinely bare no more. Both of us cringed several times throughout the first half at forced comedy. We both decided to leave by the 3rd act.
It shows a lot of glimmers of brightness, a strong visual style, and a great lead performance, but the derivative story, shortage of laughs, and flat side characters really don't back any of it up. FULL REVIEW: https://letterboxd.com/blujayfilms/film/isnt-it-romantic-2019/
