Most engaging doc on the larger-than-life personality and master violinist Itzhak Perlman. I know very little about classical music but I was spellbound whenever he played on screen. Can highly recommend this one.

This was honestly one of the most profound docs I've ever seen. A religious experience through and through. From the subject matter (Perlman is the ultimate fiddle player in my book) to the was he (and his wonderful wife) was captured by the auteurs, director, DPs, sound... glorious team all around. I especially enjoyed the fact that there were no talking heads, the fallback for most docs of this nature. Wonderful to see the world through Perlman's rose-colored glasses. Puts so much in perspective. I could watch this film 100 times and learn something new each time.

I watched this movie in the Landmark cinema in VIA 57 designed by BIG. i watched twice and the experience is enchanting and thrilling. when i saw martha argerich play and record the bach vilin sonata no 4 c minor with itzkat i am totally excited by their chemistry. last time when i am in american natural history museum in nyc. i suddenly wanted to look for the new album of itzhak and i found this album. i immediatly loved bwv 1017 fist time i listen to it. in this movie, martha adored itzhak saying that he enchanged her. itzhak praise martha that she plays the piano exactly like what he hope to listen when he play violin . two of them say that playing together is like dialogue. these day i more and more feel that it is hard to find a people that can have a dialogue. and when i find a person i can talk to, i feel very pleased when itzhak was young. he unexpectedly taught himself. interest and action combined together is the best teacher. i am deeply infected by opotuism of itzhak. he is funny and happy and love to talk joke from young to now. he is so encouraging and chrismtic i am always feel pitty that itzhak does not give serious violin performance any more. he like to do jewish folk songs now. this movie make up for this regret. i saw the film that itzhak plays bach partita. that is very moving. i feel that it worth it even just for this short part of him playing bach itzhak say his juilliard teacher deloy is different from his previous teacher. deloy emphacis that the art of artist comes from brain. she hire art teacher for itzhak to teach him painting and she bring him to museum to appreciate art. she always ask itzhak what is the concept he want to put into his music. i feel that i should also use this method to train myself

As a nearly-lifelong violinist, and proud holder of Itzhak's autograph from TangleWood (when I was a teenager), I was thrilled to find the man himself was just as compelling than his music. This documentary was fundamental to solidifying what I absorbed from him years ago, and his wife now echoes: Musicianship comes from within. This is a fantastic in-side-out look at a man who personifies what music can - and should be.

Itzhak Perlman is a hard guy not to like and that means the documentary on him, 'Itzhak', is easy on the eyes and ears. Whether you're a fan of Perlman, music, or movies this quick moving doc should be right up your alley. Personally I didn't know a lot about him, but was enlightened and entertained by one of if not the finest violin performer of all-time. Final Score: 7.8/10
