Sohrab Ahmari Wall Street Journal [The film] benefits from Mr. Pearce's and Ms. Dusseldorp's understated and good-humored performances; the larger cast of characters, especially Jack's shady racetrack partners, provide additional comic relief. Aug 2, 2013 Full Review John Powers NPR's Fresh Air Irish's blend of old and new masculinity is perfectly conveyed by Pearce, who's not merely the best reason to watch these movies, but one of the best reasons to watch anything. Frocked U Slightly gobsmacked by all the great reviews for this. Given that it stars Guy Pearce, who's been flawless in everything else - that includes his committed stint in the Neighbours finale - I figured it would be classy, but holy smokes, what the hell?! (by the way, some SPOILER ALERTS ahead!). It's preposterous and inconsistent, with plenty of things which make absolutely no sense, but for which there's no explanation (such as: why does Jack continue to drive the car in which his wife was shot dead?). Maybe some of the clanging aspects of this are also in the book, but if it hadn't been made in 2012, I'd have thought the script was written by AI. At one point, Linda asks Jack if his current vendetta is to assuage his guilt for not adequately presenting his (recently murdered) ex-client some years ago, to which Jack says he didn't have any guilt back then, he was too angry... but what's that got to do with the price of fish?! She means guilt now for what happened then, so his response makes no sense. You may want to put the kettle on when reaching one of the clunky, unnecessary sex scenes (as a side note, I did wonder if Marta Dusseldorp was thrilled with the excessive nudity - her boobs seem to get a lot of screen time), though actually, the final one was pretty (intentionally) funny. I had no idea why any of the actors signed up for this (I guess big pay cheques, and the likelihood of more instalments), and even though I'd expect Guy Pearce to usually be the bees' knees, he seems to be directed very strangely here, and peskily, the ace Aaron Pedersen isn't given much to do 'til towards the end. Other minor hilarity/grumbles: there's a henchman who looks exactly like Ringo Starr! And the mother of one character (I think there are a total of four female characters in the entire film, three of them incidental) tells Jack that before he went missing, she'd made her son his favourite breakfast: 'Scrambled eggs with toast soldiers'. Who eats soldiers with scrambled eggs? You dip them in a boiled egg, script-writing dodos! All in all, I found this weirdly, surprisingly awful. But am almost intrigued to watch an episode of the 온라인카지노추천 series, just to see if it improved... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/25 Full Review Wendy S Guy Pearce's flawless assumption of the character Jack Irish is ao convincing that over the series he becomes a dear, if flawed and beleaguered, old friend. The plot weaves seamlessly in and out with supporting cast equally comfy and atmospheric Melbourne on great display. Witty dialogue and satisfying conclusions round out "the best detective series noone's ever heard of." Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Audience Member Loved it. Want more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Guy Pearce brings the late great Peter Temple's down at the heel gumshoe to life. I'll admit, when I first saw Pearce cast as Jack Irish I didn't buy it. But Pearce makes the character his own. Backed by a superb Aussie cast (special mention goes to Aaron Pedersen as the charismatic Cam) witty dialogue and some great Melbourne scenery, it's a must watch for anyone who likes stylish noir, well told. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A terrific and engaging mystery series that has a tremendous amount of style, suspense, dark humor and action. A full-on and extremely exciting Australian noir. A stunning and mesmerizing crime-drama. Guy Pearce creates one of his best characters ever in one of his most exciting performances. A thrilling piece of television. It's the real deal; great storytelling and great acting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Jack Irish is amazing! Can't wait for more to be made! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
