(Substack) There’s so much righteous anger in this movie, not just about the way girls are treated and about bodily autonomy, but also about the recession and America’s weird post-9/11 jingoist patriotism. Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review For a horror comedy, Jennifer’s Body is conspicuously unfunny and unscary. Kiara R When I first saw this movie, I thought it was a bit boring at first but then as the movie proceeded I thought it actually was pretty decent. At first, when Jennifer went with the band after the fire broke out, I thought Needy would go after her or call for backup to try to get her friend back but she just ended up calling her boyfriend. I also for a split second thought that Jennifer was going to end up killing the band members but as the film later revealed that the band had instead tortured her and sacrificed her to get famous. I also kinda find it interesting that Needy ended up killing Jennifer because she did the same with her boyfriend but then later on Needy goes to the band members and kills them. So I'm thinking that she obviously did that for Jennifer but why would she do that? Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/25 Full Review Maryam N 10/10. I’ve rewatched the movie a few times now and I really recommend it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Naydelin H Jennifer Body is a horor/comedy movie about a popular girl (Jennifer) who is a cheerleader one day went with her nerdy friend Needy to a bar. At this bar she met this guy that’s in a band called Low Shoulders. Then a fire happens at the bar so everybody is leaving and Jennifer decides to go with the guy and his friend. They take her to the woods and they perform this sacrificed ritual in order for their band to succeed in the future. But due to them needing a virgin and Jennifer not being a virgin a demon still possessed her body giving her supernatural abilities. In order to survive this demon needs human blood to survive so she goes around killing guys. But overall I really enjoyed watching this movie. It was a bit scary in certain parts of the movie. They did a good job with the acting and I would totally recommend my friends to watch this movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Audience Member I went into this movie as a horror fan, and I was not disappointed. I absolutely love the narrative of this film having a regular teenage girl sacrificed in a satanic ritual to have the demon not only possess but force her to retain her life force essentially through killing/eating men. The visual effects were pretty good such as the inhuman gaping maw or her claws. It was good especially during the early 2000s. There were a few narrative choices that felt unnecessary such as the really long sex scene. However, I did understand the reason behind this choice to be in contrast with Jennifer devouring Collin Grey. The plot at times did feel slow. I questioned Anita choice of simply starring at the fire while it spread throughout the "bar". I also felt that the end with Anita having the powers of the demon to be forced. Despite this I did like the perspective from the criminal investigation for how Anita murders the band with the different photographs. That was a nice touch. The acting as well was not great nor terrible, but pretty good for most of the film. All in all, this was not a bad or great movie, but it was good. It's one of those classics that I would be down to rewatch again for nostalgia. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/09/25 Full Review David T It's just... Boring. So very, very, VERY boring. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Andrew R I have to be 100% honest, this movie gave me the absolute CREEPS! I am not a horror fan at all naturally, but this movie took it over the top. The whole idea of a popular cheerleader turned serial murderer, was just too gross and inhumane for me. I NEVER want to see a film like this EVER AGAIN. Quite frankly, I may not sleep very well after seeing this frightening monstrosity of a film. I do understand that some people like horror and are into these sort of movies, but this was just way too far beyond my comfort soon, and completely goes against my beliefs entirely. I believe that the writers came up with a story that, although vile and horrifying, was intriguing to hear. That being said, I have to give this film a 2/10.
