Jersey Boys Reviews
This is a hit-and-miss movie across the board. The music, the acting, the characterizations, the storytelling. I'm glad I saw it; I got a little better feel for the behind-the-scenes story of the group; but once is enough. I don't think I'll have any great urges to see it again.
A great biopic, a little rough with the stereotypes but in general it’s a beautiful story. And the Bollywood ending style never fails.
Eastwood's the right guy to make a movie about The Four Seasons, unfortunately a lot of the cast are amateurish over-actors, the make-up is laughably awful, and the source material was never strong enough to work as anything but a flashy stage show designed to feed baby boomers insatiable nostalgia.
John Lloyd Young exceptionally recreates his Tony winning performance as Frankie Valli. The movie allows for a deeper telling of this the story of the Four Season. The musical performances are amazing. What is often overlooked is that ALL of the actors are singing LIVE! They are not lip syncing. This is an entertaining movie with great acting. I highly recommend this movie.
Really pulled off that older style. Great songs
It was so bad I watched it in fast forward till I got to SOMETHING I thought would be good. Not many spots. I totally loved the Broadway play, seen it 3 times, paid for my brother n his wife to see the Broadway Play. I would say the non Broadway actors, bad camera shots and lighting were the doom of this play.
Great adaptation of the musical! Found Walkens character a bit unnecessary.
I love Frankie Valli and didn't like Tommy De Vito's behaviour and he didn't care about them but himself
Good music, entertaining story and only the best from clint eastwood
It took me a while to get into it, but the final hour or so won me over. 'Jersey Boys' is, in my eyes, very good. I only knew of the film's title and vaguely what the group did beforehand; I knew so little that I assumed their name was 'Jersey Boys', rather than 'The Four Seasons'. I did recognise a few of the songs, though only ones at the end. Even with that so, it was interesting to see the story develop. John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza are all enjoyable in their respective roles, with the standouts being Young and Piazza. The support cast, which notably includes Christopher Walken, all give more than satisfactory showings. Kinda surprised me, this one. As alluded to, I wasn't really feeling it across the opening chunk of the 134 minute run time and yet by the end I felt happy at what I had just watched. Recommended.
great movie, I have already watched it many times and I never get tired of it. The actors and the direction are fabulous. For me, this film is a success!
I'm not a huge fan of Frankie Valli but I thought the movie did a great job with the music and told a great story. I liked how it broke the fourth wall and Young did a great job as Valli. (74%)
Such a great movie with a great story. If you love the four seasons, then you'll love this movie. It tells the story of the four seasons through the jersey boys with some memorable songs.
I really liked this movie adaption of Jersey Boys to the big screen by Clint Eastwood. It is a fascinating story of how the band the Four Seasons was formed. I thought the musical numbers were great, and the drama of how Frankie Valli and his band members worked together to overcome all the inter-personal conflicts and end up becoming one of the most successful American pop-rock bands was very moving. I recommend this film for fans of the 4 Seasons! Many of the well-known 4 Seasons' hits are sung or played ("Sherry," "My Eyes Adored You," "Walk like a Man," "Oh What a Night").
God this was awful. The stage play was 100x better. This movie was poorly directed, jumped all over the place and you couldn’t care less about these people. The Four Seasons deserve better than this :(
I love the music as much as the next guy, but the entire film feels like a rushed story fit around a cover band preforming a free concert of the hits.
I didnt know most of the songs, and I didnt know the songs I knew were by them, but I enjoyed them all!
This movie based on the life of the band Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons was really good. The entire cast did an excellent job in this movie. This true story was pretty dramatic and interesting. It gives you an insight of what life was like for them and what problems they faced along the way. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. You'll enjoy it.
It was so close to being good. I stumbled upon this movie because I had heard great things about its stage version. Unfortunately this movie adaption is quite cluttered and boring. The film has no clue where it wants it's focus to be, often tackling a variety of plot points that are either resolved too quickly or are dragged on. The movie fails to correctly set up all the characters so by the end you don't really feel much of a connection to the bland folks you just spent the last two hours with. On the positive side I think John (the lead) is a standout , he does the best with what he's given and at times delivers really great moments towards the end. The movie is a fine time waster but sadly it had so much potential to be awesome. If it had a script that was more focused and spent better time introducing the side characters (and frankly the main characters too) then the movie would have soared.
