Falls es eine ist, bewirkt der Blick zurück in ein vergangenes Jahrzehnt, dass wir lachen müssen: In den 50ern versuchte die schwedische Regierung die Bewegungsabläufe von Hausfrauen während der Arbeit zu erforschen. Mit den Forschungsergebnissen wollte man die Technik der Einbauküche optimieren. Bent Hamer aus Norwegen hat diese Idee auf sein Land übertragen. Die schwedischen Feldforscher dringen vor in das entlegene Dorf Landstad, wo ein paar Junggesellen ihre Höfe bewirtschaften. Folke, der Forscher, platziert sich also bei Isak in die Küche und wartet ab. Dabei versucht er, möglichst unsichtbar zu wirken. Er wartet, doch es geschieht nichts... Das ist die Idee von Kitchen Stories: Zwei Männer in einem Raum, füreinander unsichtbar. Ein bisschen Handlung spendiert Bent Hamer, damits ein Kinofilm wird. This movie mixes a gentle critique of time-motion studies with Nordic culture in all its stillness and restraint. Worth watching every few years.

This is a slow burn with lots of little mood swings that take some understanding and patience to grasp under the surface. I enjoyed it the first time I watched it, and even more the next few times. Just nice people trying to work and live there lives in the cold impersonal world of 1950s Scandinavian. SKOL!

The premise sounds like it could be hilarious, but the comedy in this movie is very low key, perhaps a little too so. It is still a charming little slight character piece. A little slow, though.

Norwegian. A more quiet story at moments. Curious norwegians trying to design a more , improved kitchen. Heartwarming.

I loved this film. sly charm and understated humor hardly needs the subtitles to be appreciated.

Parece uma representação do método de pesquisa 'mosca na parede' quando não existiam câmeras para monitorar a atividade do pesquisado. Entra em cena o pesquisador que fica do alto observando diariamente como o pesquisado interage com a cozinha. Situações muito engraçadas acabam acontecendo por causa disso e fica claro que, por mais isolado que o pesquisador tente ficar, acaba influenciando as atividades do pesquisado de alguma forma.

Um sujeito desengonçado tem a árdua tarefa de pesquisar os hábitos de cozinha de velhos solteiros na Suécia. O filme mostra como o método de pesquisa acaba inibindo tanto o usuário que ele se torna ineficiente.

Such an odd film but so very likable...Its a film of small details but significant ones...

Some people might get bored. Yes it is slow. However, the slow pace fits the storyline perfectly. Kitchen Stories is a story about friendship between two old scandinavian man. One is from Sweden, a "scientist", the other is Norwegian.A team of scientists from Sweden come to Norway to study single males in their kitchen. Each scientist is attribuated a single male. Their task is to sit in a tennis umpire chair in the corner of the kitchen, and report quitely every single move made by the individual being observed. They are told not to communicate with each other.The characters seem cold and uncommunicative at the beginning. But slowly, one enters their mind, share their every single emotion. And as the film goes on, we discover the meeting of two people, and the building of their friendship.

A tremendous quirky film about the Swedish equivalent of the good housekeeping institute and their investigations into the kitchen habits of the single man. It's slow and considered, funny and arty. And sub titled.

A fantastic, quietly funny comedy about friendship. The humour is subtle and smart. However, I think that people who don't have much experience with Scandinavians might not understand all of he nuance in this movie.

Dry and funny, a movie about loneliness and voyeurism has a surprising amount of charm. The pace is slow and the dialog may be a little lost in translation, but it is worth checking out if you have time for a modest tale of two men watching each other.

The film's grey and white palette reflects the quiet, spare emotional landscape of an all male rural Norway. Some of the oddest comic moments in film. Norwegian with English subtitles.
