Kōchiyama Sōshun, also known in English as Priest of Darkness, is a 1936 Japanese jidaigeki film directed by Sadao Yamanaka. It is one of three surviving films by the director.
Vision wrote "the first attempt at a Japanese gambling film. A first attempt at a Samurai duel. The background scenery in some of the scenes is breathtaking. Warming. Don't forget the sweet sake. Sister looks after brother. Brother mirrors. The siblings showcase Romeo + Juliet personalities. Setsuko Hara is an unknown to be known. The ending tempo for the hunt of the fox in the forest was magnificent. Magnificently choreographed and directed. Four fries!"
