Lee Reviews
The most overlooked film of 2024. What a raw and beautiful tribute to an American unsung hero. Lee Miller's life is deserving of a Kate Winslet performance and Kate delivers profoundly in front and behind the camera. There is a scene half way through the film that should have won her an Oscar. I cannot think of another working actor today who has the same authentic presence and uncanny ability to make you feel things with just the power of her face and eyes. She is truly an exceptional actress and Lee reminds us why. This film should be taught in schools and everyone should know Lee Miller's name. Fantastic historical biopic made with a lot of passion, accuracy, and care. Brava to all involved. A must see from me. 5/5
Weak plot. This film has zero redeeming elements. Winslet over acting. Plot “twist “ at the end came out of nowhere and was irrelevant to the film. And I learned nothing new about WW2. Avoid.
Felt like Winslet needed an outlet to speak more than she wanted to pay homage to Lee and her actual life.
Possibly Kate Winslet's best performance. Shining light on the harsh reality of WW2. This story is very important and needs to be watched by all.
An inspiring movie, worth the watch.
Pretty good. Good acting by winslet. Several awkward scenes and a rushed ending. I suspect some scenes that were needed to tie things together were cut out to keep the movie shorter. It also pushed the idea that WWII was only about Hitler and the Jewish population while ignoring the rest of the world.
If I hadn’t been on a flight with little to do for 7 hours I would not have watched this. Glad I did.
It was shocking, the scenes in Dachau still haunt me, but it's okay: it's necessary to be upset by these things. Winslet, as always, gives her greatest and Samberg needs to do more dramas, he has the talent and potential, he gotta use it.
Did not agree with critics 'typical biopic' commentary. We saw only a snapshot of this woman's life, a lead in to WW2 and how she spent the war years in London and making her way to the front. She seemed hard in some scenes and compassionate in others, certainly self-willed and broken since childhood. I'm a big Winslet fan (who isn't) and I know she tends to downplay her beauty, but when you are playing a beautiful woman, it's ok to be beautiful. She looked too old for the part at times. Not to be mean about Winslet's looks (she is and always has been a beauty) but for her to be more believable as the character. I'm an old lady, mom and grandma, but I thought the frontal nudity was fine, Winslet's body was gorgeous. All the supporting players were excellent. Good production. Pleasure to see James Murray here. Hope he gets more military roles. He's perfect. Andy Samberg was just great. I liked the Josh O'Connell set up for presenting the story. I will watch this one again sometime.
The profound significance surrounding Lee Miller’s legacy is formally weighed near the end, but the rest doesn’t capture the fascination that initially struck when reactively not providing a fresher angle to what’s already been digested prior, therefore solely relying on Kate Winslet’s gradually strengthening embodiment to elevate a plain picture that wasn’t under the same aspired lenses as it should have. (B-)
Brilliant brilliant! Kate Winslet is amazing in this movie. I couldn’t look away from her. And the twist at the end bowled me over! Love this movie!!!
I enjoyed this film . Kate Winslet was very good and the story itself along with the images of WW2 was very good.
great story based on a true story, it is worth a watch if you like war movies.
We loved this movie. It was a complete surprise, I just saw it on the contents in passing and put it on. loved the real life story, the way it was done, the twists. A must see.
Kate Winslet had to have a bad movie some day. This is surely it. I never understand when filmmakers bother to have a protagonist that is just plain unlikable. I wouldn’t recommend this.
Extremely well acted and directed. Highly recommended. Vividly tells the story of Lee Miller yet also of WWII
This is the movie that made me join Rotten Tomatoes. I can't believe it has a 6.9! Yes. We've seen all the WWII movies: Saving Private Ryan, Jojo rabbit, 1944, Pearl harbor, Schindler's List, Sophie's Choice...yes, yes, and yes, the list is long. But. We have so many movies about this war because we should never forget! We must not forget history lest we repeat it! This movie is searing in its modern relevance, precious in it's poignancy, with brilliant directing and acting by all involved, and photography, wow. The point of view IS THE POINT!! A woman photographer, who happens to be an ex-model, first on the scene when Paris and concentration camps were liberated? Her photos are why we KNOW and how we found out what happened. Andy Samberg made me weep. Kate Winslet has more acting subtlety in ONE NOSTRIL, wow, than you'll ever feel. No words. And brilliandirected and shot
A much better movie than I thought it would be after reading the reviews. Very well acted as one would expect from Winslet who is on the screen for 95% of the movie and she carries it. Anytime a movie can make me think of how bloody horrible the holocaust was and war is, it is something all people should watch in this day and age of dictators and fascists rising in America and all over the world. Definitely worth watching if you like movies that make you think.
This movie is so powerful. I haven’t seen such a must-see in a long time. Amazing
Really solid film. Great casting. Winslet deserves some awards for it and even Sandberg was impressive. Nice little twist in the end.
