Lights Out Reviews
Loved this movie. It delivers in so many ways. The atmosphere, the entity, and the acting are really well done. It was a really good horror movie to watch with a bunch of friends.
Had some creepy, scary moments, but storyline and plot development was incoherent and rather silly.
stupid movie bad plot bad everything . just a waste of time more of a comedy then horror from how goofy it is.
Has the greenest flag guy ever as a boyfriend, I was blushing more than I was scared
Absolutely love this film. Had a great story line and was absolutely terrifying. Highly recommend
I'm sorry, guys but this Conjuring-adjacent film (not part of the franchise but James Wan was a producer and, despite this film explicitly being a work of fiction, still seemed to me like it was clearly gunning for that crowd), while not bad, was an underwhelming horror movie. There are things to like about it. The acting is good, the characters aren't generic horror movie stereotypes, it makes a good first impression and the cinematography's solid but the film felt way too short, I didn't find the villain to be that scary and the ending can be interpreted as stigmatising mental illness, not helped by the fact that this wasn't the original ending. I just thought this film was forgettable is all I'm saying and that it felt like a first attempt at feature-length filmmaking before his improved efforts on Annabelle: Creation. And maybe the concept of "horror movie villains as personifications of mental illness" just doesn't appeal to me. At least that's what I think after doing some self-reflection on it. I didn't hate Lights Out. It just didn't make me afraid of the dark like it wanted to do.
Good movie overall had good jumpscares but the ending was simple compared to the beginning of the movie.
This is yet, another overrated film.It felt like a downgrade version of insidious. The movie was boring because of how predictable it was, the characters were quite stupid in certain parts of the film, and the ending just felt dumb.
This movie did not deserve 75%! If you only like jump scares this is for you, but to me this movie was lazy with 0 creativity and about 80% of the movie is just jump scares. You can sleep real easy after this one
The boogeywoman hides in the dark. This movie was really scary, had a good storyline, and a bittersweet ending. I recommend it.
i liked how the movie got straight into the movie, im the type of person who needs to be hooked right away and this movie did just that. the characters seemed believable. the scares are super cool too, and really made me jump. i feel if we didn't know as much as diana's backstory but still knew the basics it would provide an scarier unknown feeling about her. but overall i would say this movie is a pretty good horror film that could easily have someone sleeping with a light on.
10/10 - Not a bad film for my tastes. The plot, however, didn't convince me much because of the antagonist who in my opinion seems a bit touchy. The protagonists seem to be subjects of various strategies but structured a little badly. The rest, however, is disturbing.
amazing movie great plot, and really scary.
Yet another movie that should have stayed a short film, it was much better. Though it wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen, the over-explanation of "Diana's" backstory left it utterly boring by the time everything ended. The decisions that some of the characters made were questionable. It seems like they could have done a better job given the source material.
It's not without some legitimately scary moments but the movie, inevitably, overstays it's welcome. By the end you're exhausted by the premise rather than thrilled by it.
Woah. This was great! I was not expecting this to be this good! Yes some parts of the script felt a little daytime soap-y but the scares were great. The suspense and tension was well built and held. I also LOVE that they just get right into it and don't spend an hour trying to build up some storyline before they give you any scares. I thought the underlying message was great, an original concept which I always love to see in scary movies. Honestly this movie is very close to being a 5/5 for me. I would probably watch it again and definitely recommend it to others
Great scary movie I don't like 'monster ' movies but this well worth it- mostly in your head.
This movie felt like a symbolic visual representation on how the mental health illnesses affects daily lives, how it affects how we function, how it affects other people, especially the children and the family. Diana, the antagonist is the symbol for mental illness. The mother Sophie is the symbol of an individual suffering from the mental illness, Rebecca represents the trauma and stress children carried throughout their childhood, there was a scene where Diana showed at Becca's house, I feel like it is a symbol on how traumatic experiences from childhood haunts someone through their adulthood. Martin represents the innocence of a child, walking on eggshells not to trigger Diana, trying to figure out how to he can help Sophie, his mother, to get better. Martin is a symbol of children living in challenging situations where he is forced to grow up, his childhood left behind. Sophie, to save her children from Diana who is trying to hurt them, ends up unaliving herself. This is a symbol of a very unfortunate truth where individuals suffering from mental illness may feel that taking their own lives is the solution to stop the hurt. The scene where Martin and Sophie are trying to find ways to help their mom is a representation of families, trying to help someone suffering from a mental illness, that no matter how hard the situation may be, they are determined to show them, and make them feel that even the long nights will end and the sun will rise.
Good scares, original story, decent acting. Nice one for a stormy night.
