Manglehorn Reviews
I think this is watchable because Pacino really is a magnetic actor.
It is true that there is not much story, but the movie is so delicate, the character of Pacino wakes so many things inside us, that I can forgive it.
Great moments but felt long at times.
Al Pacino gives a very nice and subtle performance in Manglehorn. The film itself is an acquired taste for sure, as is with most of David Gordon Green's films. The story is not very intriguing or deep. More or less this film works more as a light character study that focuses on a man who has spent most of his life in regretful pain over the loss of the woman he truly loved. Pacino is a master at revealing deep sorrow and pain through the eyes of this character. Overall, for me the film is worth watching for Pacino's performance.
Al Pacino's 'Cast Away' Moment As He Is The Lead In A Film Where The Majority Of Time Is Spent In His Own Thoughts, Talking To Himself Or A Cat. Without Him Cast In This Lead Role It Most Probably Would Of Become A Failed Project. Many Of The Small Roles That Do Engage With Him Are Not Well Developed, It Is Confusing At Times & The Moods-Themes Chops & Changes So Much It Becomes A Rabble Of Ideas. Some Of It Is Tragic, Some Bits Hit A Good Mark, Whilst Other Bits Are Just Stupid. I Still Found It All Okayish But Mostly Because The Music Added Some Unusual Tones. I Would Not Recommend This As A 'Comedy' Tho As Some Have...It Doesn't Even Manage Dark Comedy. It Is More Of A Tragic Requiem.
3.5 stars. Al Pacino gives an empathetic, well acted performance. This is a quirky indie movie. I enjoyed this movie and think it is seriously underrated here.
Pacino? Sublime. Hunter? Exquisite. Messina? Powerful. The premise? Full of potential. The symbolism? Scathing. I vote we keep everything as is and let someone like Gan Bi, Almodovar or, hell, even go all Hollywood and gamble on Steven Knight to direct it. I bet my right dogtooth we'd be left with a mesmerizing, anthropocentric masterpiece on fear, loss, love, regret, change. Unfortunately, as it stands... aaahh, what a freaking waste.
I guess an artistic piece in the twilight years of Pacino's career. I like cats and indie movies so I gave it a ride. I don't know why it's billed as a comedy but it's at least watchable.
Al Pacino love some animals ....no humans anymore since he lost the love of his life ...very slowly he try's to think more positive in life again . Pacino & the Cat were good !
A bleak and depressing drama with an underrated performance from Al Pacino.
unpleasingly depressing-very little enjoyment.want an upliftingly good flick-this doesn't come close.
Pacino does a good cantankerous turn but the whole thing is so downbeat that it's hard to warm to it.
A really bland character that isn't interesting enough to base a movie around. Pacino at seems to be trying, but much like with his performance in The Humbling, it's too low key and sleep inducing. Strange to criticize Pacino for keeping the energy too low and minimalist. The script is probably what fails the most here. There's just unfortunately nothing interesting happening on screen. A small misfire from David Gordon Green.
