Martin Reviews
A film that helped to reinvent and reshape the vampire mythos, Martin is another example of Romero at the top of his game.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 28, 2023
A film that was caught-up in the UK’s Video nasty kerfuffle in the 1980s, Romero often referred to Martin as his favourite film. It may lack the visceral thrills of some of his other work, it’s easy to see why the filmmaker would think so fondly of it.

Romero demystifies legendry with with respect.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 28, 2022
Overlong, underfed with ideas, and almost bereft of any real excitement.

Enigmatic and intriguing on many levels... the age-old fascination with vampirism is contrasted with urban angst, and one may be seen directly linked with the other.
| Sep 28, 2022
Some scenes are viley, flamboyantly frightening, others merely itchy with a sinister potential.
| Sep 28, 2022
A film full of style, full of twists on the conventions of movie horror.
| Sep 28, 2022
Somewhat pretentious and roughly made, but often works on a crude comic book level.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 28, 2022
Spiritual and individualistic.

Martin has plenty of graphic, though not lingering, gore and some humor, too, but pathos is is the essential quality of this modern-day vampire tale.

You're never quite sure what's real and what isn't...

Martin is not quite terrifying or riveting enough to rank with the classic horror films, but it teases the imagination in unexpected ways.

"Martin" is pretentious in a way that pornography is when it is dressed up for people who don't want to admit to their taste.

A neglected minor masterpiece from cult horror director George A Romero about a disturbed teenager who may or may not be a vampire.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 7, 2013
It's rough around the edges (variable acting and flaky FX abound) yet it still intrigues, still disgusts and -- important, this -- still disturbs.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 10, 2012
More than just a midnight-movie classic, Martin is inventive, haunting and bitingly smart. Forget the recent Land Of The Dead and see Romero at the top of his terror game.

I Was a Teenage Vampire, rendered by George Romero with breathtaking dolor and tenderness.
| Mar 29, 2010
George A. Romero is still limited by apparently low budgets. But he has inserted some sepia-toned flashback scenes of Martin in Rumania that are extraordinarily evocative.

Martin will baffle many fans of the vampire genre, but it's a satisfying treat for horror aficionados nonetheless, and beyond that, it's simply a superb piece of film-making.
| Original Score: 4.5/5 | Oct 18, 2008
Aside from the zombie classics and taken by itself, Martin is also a kind of masterpiece.
