Mary Reviews
Another history washing, terrible trash not worth a minute of time.
The premise of this story has been done a million times and yet this film exists to offer anything new or exciting.
4% is harsh. I like films about boating or cruises. It isn't the best film, but parts of it are well done with good performances by the actors. This is an example of when I don't always trust Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite a changed setting, this is derivatively one of the worst structurally standardized haunts to manifest in ridiculed disappointment that squandered the opportunity including somehow fooling the cast to act beneath their caliber. (C-)
I thought it was mysterious dark, with an unexpected take overs by dark spirits that look for the weak & frail in order to survive. My only take on this, all the changes that occurred were horrible once being on a boat with a mythical creature at the front of the boat, and the father image just wants to give up on the child, as if he is somehow over taken as well by the mythical creature. It's like they have no real backbone from both parents. The mom doesn't want to live the son, but does.
Must have spent all its money on the cast.
30 minutes. I made it to 30 minutes of this movie. It's been a long time since I found myself unable to finish a movie just because of how bad it was. It's lame. LAME. The ghost is lame, the tropes are tired, badly done and lame, and the jumpscares are cheap...and lame. I gotta stop thinking that movies are good just because they have some good actors involved. And the family drama just feels forced, and unnatural. It wants you to know just how bad things were going in the main couple's marriage, and reminds you all the time. This movie is ticking off all the awful horror clichés, and I don't want to stick around long enough to see how far down the list it goes. They managed to make horror intolerably boring, which I find remarkable. Even Gary Oldman couldn't save this trash heap.
This is hands-down the greatest cinematic masterpiece of our time. A gripping narrative decorated with an all-star cast, Mary keeps you guessing while you fall in love with the characters. Mesmerizing cinematography and a tremendous soundtrack are the cherries on top of this delicious, often terrifying gem. Literally no one will dislike this pure gift to man. To prove this, I am willing to sacrifice my life, knowing full-well that my time on this Earth has not been ill-spent.
If you go into this with little to no expectations than you should be okay. Sure, it stars Gary Oldman but his performance was not enough to float this ship-wreck of a movie. To put it bluntly, this movie was full of cliches, holes, and nothing original. If you're bored and just want some background noise this may be an okay pick. If you geniunely want a decent horror flick then be like a skipper and skip this watery tale.
Fairly generic couple with couple problems cause women can't keep themselves to themselves. Nothing to do with the story really. Average story- haunted ship, people get haunted, not really scary or interesting. Pretty boring, even the surprise end wasn't a huge surprise and has been done many many times before. Not worth it to watch.
Very weak horror, almost no ghosts just some family members go crazy and murder, with each other. An embarrassing and relatively boring horror film.
I hope you are reading this before you see this movie. Gary Oldman sorry but people need to know not to watch this movie, it's awful.
we have seen this film many times. cliche from start to the end
no pun!! Painful to sail through, this was a predictable voyage from the start. Haven't seen a horror movie in years worth watching, to much cookie cutting these days. What was Oldman thinking you old salty Dog?
Hard to understand how this went so wrong. Almost every single development feels like out of all the options available to the momentum of the story, whichever is the worst possible choice is the one that Mary goes with. Over and over and over. I mean you've got Acadamy Award Winning Gary Oldman literally on deck here, in what on paper is actually a very cool premise. I even have a predisposed fondness for boat movies. How was this not even "just okay"?
I was hoping an amazing movie with Gary Oldman one of my favorites, but, we've got that messy movie, the only scene that I really liked was close to the ending when the demon herself appeared and killed Gary, which was a little bit creepy and bizarre. Well-deserved half of a star.
This horror film has an interesting plot about a haunted yacht found by a family which unknown of its evil manipulations. The lead casts gave a notable performances to justify the characters in the story but unfortunately the execution of the film its waterloo to make it an effective horror film. The boring parts were evident plus the some scenes were not scary at all. There is unclear parts of the story that were not fully explained which added to its failure. In addition, the open ended climax only add up to its mediocrity.
Mary is a decent supernatural horror that should please genre fans willing to overlook its sloppy jump scares and weak storytelling.
