Midsommar Reviews
This movie is brilliant. My complaint is that the theater falsely advertised a showing of the director's cut, but only showed the original.
One of the best horror movies of the past decade... maybe ever. Ari Aster proves himself to be no one-hit wonder. A masterclass in how to make your audience really, really uncomfortable. Beautifully shot. Incredible art direction and production design. Florence Pugh delivers yet another brilliant performance in 2019 (it really is the Year of the Pugh). See this movie.
This movie could have been better it started out dark got sicker and ended sick. I’m not into this sort of thing though.
Garbage. Pure tripe. Talk about a 100% waste of money. This was one of those "horror" movies that has a great setup, and literally no logical or movie-logic to hold it together. Don't bother. Really.
Did not like or get the movie
Not much more than the original but still enjoyable. Felt a lil longer only since I knew what to expect aside from the new stuff. THIS is the version to show a new person even though it's barely any new stuff.
The suspense, pace, and formation of the story.
Terrible movie. Nothing like the previews and totally inappropriate. Should have warning labels for parents.
3rd time seeing this film, first time seeing director’s cut. This film gets better with each viewing! Ari Aster is my fave filmmaker right now.
I had really high expectations for the film.
Great cinematography, great relationship between the cast and that’s about it. Long, boring and nothing seems to happen for the longest time. Then when it does it’s so 60’s but bad 60’s. All done before and better. Pretentious piece of crap that’s not even scary or suspenseful. It was actually funny in many parts because it was so ridiculous.
Good movie, slightly disturbing. I read it politically and to me it speaks about the dangers of religious dogma, and tribalism, as well as many other problems in the US today, such as unwavering faith in “established truths” like the free market economy or the constitution, even in the face of the horrors and death that they account for. The relentless pursuit of expansion, the demand to know, and the ambitious travel industry are also in question here. Midsommar offers a glimpse into how some ppl (in this case Dani) (given her terrible experiences) can grow to accept and celebrate the terrible, such as the pagan cult, or a Trump presidency. Even more proving is the indoctrination of young children into the cult (or political party) who grow up unquestioning and uncritical.
the extended scenes made the movie even better than before. would give 10/5 stars if i could
The few extra scenes that are added, give the film more layers and also make it more impactful, while also answering some minor questions. It was a bit better than the original cut. I loved it once again.
wonderful, this should have been the movie they showed from the start.
This is a piece of art, immersive and mesmerising. If you are not going to look at it that way, it's still a damn good jump fest.
4th time seeing this film, the directors cut added the best scenes we didn’t see in the original cut and I thoroughly enjoyed this and every time I saw this film!
Loved everything about Midsommar! I want a part II already. The videography was amazing, story line kept you guessing and in the edge of your seat with emotional parts as well.
Ari Aster’s brilliantly transcendent, beguiling sophomore achievement uses its slow-burn pace to absorb us in the central couple’s deteriorating relationship and its idyllic, sun-drenched setting to illuminate and juxtapose the horrors around its characters while benefiting immensely from a ravishing cinematography, a transfixing score, and a stunning performance by Florence Pugh.
the previews did not prepare me at all for what came when seeing this movie. Loved this movie! If you enjoy thrillers and have been waiting for a good thriller to come out, this is it.
