Miller's Girl Reviews

Apr 30, 2025

Cant say anything but love Jenna in it!! Only watched it for her

Underrated. Great performances from lead cast and great cinematography. Nice setting and very atmospheric. I think people are uncomfortable with an 18 year old woman having any kind of accountability. Also without giving anything away i think a lot of people didnt understand the mid section, and therefore missed the whole point of the movie.

oh wow, oh wow, oh wow. I went into this movie without any prior knowledge, which now I wish I did so I could've stopped myself from pressing play. Props to you for being able to make me feel uncomfortable with the 31 year age gap for the whole entire film.

Hackneyed plot, predictability and emptiness of the plot, vulgarity

Truly I don't know what to make of this movie. It could have been a good representation of a situation like this and in the end it feels like a young teenager wrote bad fanfiction. + I cannot complain about the quality of the visuals. + The acting is nothing I have an issue with either. + Most of the characters aren't good people but they at least feel like people. - Jennas character decides to not feel like a person in the latter half of the movie. She is consistently weird throughout the movie but she becomes a teenage girls cliché in the last 45 min. - The plot felt okay for the first 45 minutes and I could follow and understand the rest of it but it devolved into something truly weird and quite bad. - The dialogue for Jennas character is just an open dictionary, sometimes it's well done but often they looked up the biggest words they could find and made some coherent sentences from it. - The last half of the movie is a badly written fanfiction plot. Jennas character devolves into some mustache twirling cliche of "evil". She decides to "mastermind" the end of Millers career because she was disappointed and rejected. She started speaking like some big bad all of a sudden. - I don't know why but all of a sudden she behaves quite horribly toward what I presumed was her good friend.

This was an ok movie but it was confusing. I also thought that the age difference was pretty inappropriate. Like dang find someone your own age. But overall it was pretty good

Really bad. No aspect of the movie was able to save it to become something worth watching.

It’s obvious the majority of the critics here are men who have been in or near Mr Miller’s shoes. They can’t bear to contemplate their own monsterous though, once-upon-a-time societally condoned behavior. It’s a classic Freudian case of reaction-formation. The acting was great all around, beautifully shot, and the dialogue lyrically compelling. I’m 100% sure the low ratings are reflections of the reviewers’ own self-loathing and denial than the quality of the film itself.

I watched the movie Miller's Girl yesterday and it's truly one that everyone should avoid. As a movie buff I have never seen a movie in recent years with so much cringeworthy and nonsensical dialogue. The acting is terrible and the cinematography is shot in a very strange atmospheric way and the tone of the entire film is extremely psychedelic. The opening of the movie was interesting but after that it just gets weird and makes no sense. I felt like this was a student film project that was quickly shot in order to meet a deadline for a grade in a four year film school program. The controversy surrounding this movie and the fact that Jenna Ortega is the main female lead are the only two main reasons why I watched this movie. I knew what this movie was about, but I didn't think that this movie was going to result in being so psychedelic and so cringeworthy of dialogue that it makes anyone, even a movie buff to see that this movie is complete garbage. Miller's Girl came out in select theaters this year and there's a great reason why that is. Jenna Ortega has lost credibility from me. How in the world she went from doing Stuck in The Middle on Disney Channel, to Scream 5 and 6, to the Fallout (movie) , X (movie) to Wednesday and then now to this piece of trash is beyond me. Smart movie fans will skip this one and see a movie that is worth seeing. Remember if you pay and watch crappy movies then Hollywood will keep giving us crappy movies. We receive enough crappy movies as it is we don't need more. I felt bad that I paid $7.99 to watch this on streaming and I gave the filmmakers, the producers, the production companies and studios money. This movie only kept me engaged in the story for about five to ten minutes because of the cringey dialogue and poor acting due to the terrible movie script that was written. When the movie ended I was happy because then I could find something else to watch. Just to recap the story of this horrible movie, the film is about an 18 yr. old high school student named, Cairo Sweet, who is very talented and is given a creative writing assignment by her english teacher, Johnathan Miller, but as the days go on they became unusually close and things become complex. The writer and director of this movie is Jade Bartlett who also did the movie, The Accountant which starred Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick, which was an entertaining and unique movie but it was a little out there, I found it to be a good one though. Unfortunately Miller's Girl isn't unique, it's just boring and very unusual cringey after the first 5 or 10 minutes. This Is both Jena's and Jade's worst work ever in the film industry in my opinion and I'm being very honest. At the end of a very long day Miller's Girl Is just downright awful and I would much rather spend my day watching Someone build a fence than watch this movie. This movie officially confirms that if anything we need brand new talent in Hollywood with amazing and brand new fresh ideas that actually work for the majority of the movie fans and movie buffs. On an end note everyone involved should really be ashamed of themselves, the producers, the writer and director, the select theaters who showed it in their areas and even the streaming services for putting it on our small screens in our homes. The streaming services really do need to take this piece of garbage off of their services, I mean come on now, what the heck are we paying to watch here, 'cause it sure isn't anything good.

I loved this movie. Jenna and Martin’s chemistry was great, I loved the depth and the poetics of some of the quotes, the cinematography was great. I didn’t love the ambiguity of the ending, but really enjoyed the movie!

Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman are both mostly good in their roles, but that’s about all that is good about this movie. Weird messages, a lot of bad supporting actors and stale moments riddled with over complicated dialogue and big words that don’t fit in the sentence they’re in. Winnie was a vaguely interesting side character, and she is alone in that. This could have been much better in the format of a book or stage play.

Ayooooo Bilbo Baggins

This movie is very interesting to say the least. The story is alright i would say as it does have some twists but has a very confusing end and is quite predictable. However, the cinematography is great in my opinion with some stunning shots and interesting camera angles. The best part about Miller's Girl has to be the performances given by Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman. Specifically Jenna as the story focuses on her and about mid-way through the movie she gives a monologue that made a huge impact on how i felt about her character and the choices she makes. Martin gives a compelling performance as by the end you do start to feel for him as things unwind. It's not great but it's not bad but if your looking for a drama that will get you feeling impacted by emotions then this is for you.

What even is this movie . Miller was all over Cairo but his grown ass still blamed it on cairo.the only likable characters were his wife.cairo was right when she said he was mid.

I am surprised at the low rating. This film is both delicate and beautiful in portraying a young woman taken advantage of and then rejected by her teacher. This is a raw and honest portrayal of the heart, the reality of crossing those boundaries, the ache of rejection and how more often than not a big 'f*ck you' rarely makes things better. Freeman excellently acts the lost and passionless teacher who mistakes student exceptionalism for maturity and jumps at her interest and admiration, in an attempt to feel like the writer he believed he once was.

I don't know how to explain it but it's confusing in a good way.
