If only he had probed a bit deeper, and widened his scope beyond the predominantly white, male subjects (including our own Rob Brydon, Steve Coogan and Stephen Merchant), this could have been a fascinating film as well as a funny one.

Pollak only gets round to misery right at the end, in a quick-fire sequence of comedians either agreeing or disagreeing that you have to be miserable to be funny. By then, though, you'll probably have stopped caring.

As a fan of films and documentaries, it's a bit annoying how thematically unfocused this talking heads doc is. As a fan of comedy, however, it's impossible to not get enjoyment from the insightful and hilarious interviews from the 50+ comic superstars who make up this movie.

A straightforward series of interview clips that kept my attention from start to finish. Visually, it isn't an artistic triumph but it didn't attempt to be either. If you love stand-up comedy and are fascinated by the psychology behind some of your favorite comedians & actors, this documentary will scratch that itch. Good stuff.
