Wendy Ide Times (UK) Indistinguishable but for one vital element: Philip Seymour Hoffman. Sep 12, 2022 Full Review David Ansen Newsweek ...this snappy installment is a marked improvement over John Woo's surprisingly dull sequel, though the set pieces lack the elegance and visual coherence of the Brian de Palma original. Nov 1, 2007 Full Review Ben Walters Time Out There are plentiful perilous countdowns, most of the set-pieces are impressively mounted and, in its own silly way, the pay-off offers a glancing blow at US foreign policy. Relatable? No. But quite fun. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Chris Garcia Austin American-Statesman ...a sleek, punchy thing that glides with a professional efficiency verging on the ho-hum. It's fun. It's stupid. It thrusts you against your seat, knotted, wired. Rated: 3/4 May 16, 2025 Full Review Eleanor O'Sullivan Asbury Park Press (NJ) The machines have won. The audiences hoping for sanity or logic have lost. Rated: 2/4 May 16, 2025 Full Review George M. Mark F One of the top 3 in the franchise. The bridge sequence is great, also the Rome heist is Mission Impossible at its best. The only negative is the handling of Ethan and his wife's relationship is saccharin but that's a JJ Abrams trait - he's good at action and spectacle, not so good at characters and subtlety. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Jude Adriyan F A absolute addition Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Thomas C 7.5 out of 10. MASSIVE improvement over MI2, but still has some issues. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/25 Full Review Joseph L Intelligent, suspenseful and daring. A great first installment in the series. It may not possess the incredible action that can be found in later installments but the intrigue more than makes up for it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/09/25 Full Review Audience Member This is the first mission impossible that starts to explore some form of continuity between characters. It’s a welcome change from the revolving cast that features terrible one minors and allows you to start to build some continuity and familiarity with different characters. To me the big problem in the film is we know what the stakes are but we don’t know anything about the MacGuffin that we’re chasing. It would be better to have some sort of idea as to what we’re chasing so the audience can feel a little bit more invested. Not the best in the franchise, but a huge step up from the second film.
