Monstrous Reviews

Nov 16, 2024

It’s ok although I found the plot twist in the first few minutes. It’s quite slow although the acting is really good.

Total snoozefest. Nothing happens. There's a twist. This movie could have been told in five minutes.

In my opinion, the movie uses very good camera and audio visual equipment and the crew members and the filmmakers have played their roles very well. I really liked it.

Ricci does a fantastic job in this unsettling film.

Monstrous is a brooding, creepy horror / thriller, helmed by the ever reliable Christina Ricci. May be a little slow for some but if you stick with it, especially given it is under 90 mins duration, it's a reasonable escape.

A sad little movie. The best horror movies often are.

Glad I saw this one, you will be too

Acting was okay at best and the pacing was all over the place. The scares were underwhelming and the twists were extremely predictable. It felt as though multiple writers with conflicting ideas all addressed different parts of the movie. Feels like the movie is confused about what it's supposed to be.

Peccato, non convince, troppo manierismo, poca profondità e poco sentimento… Non esattamente l'ideale quando si affrontano temi emotivi.

I loved this movie. I really enjoyed the era and the plot twist.

Zzzzzzzzzzz... Very predictable and blunt story...

This movie was a great slow burn i loved the 1950s and any movie with that style. Cristina Ricci was fabulous.

I liked it even though I figured the plot out half way through the movie. Christina Ricci is an underrated actress, I thought her acting was remarkable in the movie. And am I the only one getting Resse Witherspoon vibes? They practically look and sound alike.

Seen too many movies like this in recent years and the story just fails to stand-out from the rest… and then it pulls an ending out of thin air that elevates things. The second half is definitely the stronger half.

3.5 stars; To me; this movie was like a painting that when you look at it from a distance, you're not impressed at all and are ready to move on to the next one. But as you get closer, it becomes a little more interesting. And when you get close up, you realize that this is really a beautiful painting. Yeah. I initially was in the mood for a good Horror movie. But soon, I figured this movie was going to fail my 20 minute test. It looked like the same, old same old. The main thing that kept me watching was that they did a good job creating a period piece from the 50's. I especially enjoyed the music. I am from that period and loved Buddy Holly. I have to agree with those who say that Christine Ricci WAS a believable character from that period. It was when they started delving into her mystery past that the movie became interesting to me, and I hung on. I have to confess that I was caught off guard with the ending, but I should have seen it coming. I try to enjoy a movie in the story it's telling without spending all my time looking for gotcha's.

The movie idea isn't that bad but the dialogues are so boring, the performance are so so bad that there isn't nothing left to safe. Are all North American actresses so filled with Botox and surgeries? Quite sad to see too.

I Predicted the "big twist" about 15 minutes in.

I'm not a huge Christina Ricci fan but I have to say she was absolutely made for this part and it for her. She was the very embodiment of the main character. I also loved the settings and scenarios, the strange (and well acted) child and the macabre, surreal feel and pacing of the movie. This was a stand alone, unique piece of work. Only four stars though because I found the whole lady in the lake motif (including the ending) pretty much of a letdown and rather schmaltzy at that.

I called out the twist as soon as I heard how the houseowner’s wife spoke. So I guess it was predictable, but I still liked the story. Worth watching once, Ricci is still a great actress.

The twist ending makes absolutely no sense, and is a huge middle finger right in the audience's face. A mindnumbingly stupid film.
