Spoiler alert. The person who was murdered supposedly measured his bungee cord incorrectly. The bridge that he jumped off of was supposedly 300 feet high. The bungee cord that he carried on the bridge and what was shown in the clips of him jumping off the bridge was only about 20 feet long. When Monk is explaining what happened at the end of the show, he says Griffin thought he was measuring his bungee cord at 304 feet! There’s no way the cord was anywhere near 304 feet, Again, it was only about 20 feet. And if you’re jumping off a bridge that’s 300 feet high, your actual jump will be closer to 250 feet, so your bungee cord would probably be closer to 75-100 feet, because it’s gonna stretch at least double in the length of what you cut! Anyone who was a fan of the series could’ve come up with a better storyline. It’s like they didn’t care that the storyline didn’t make sense. What a shame. It’s a jungle out there and Monk is the respite. I have watched the series at least 10 times and the movie a few times as well. I think that the only crime is that this series did not continue for 10 more seasons. Well, at least we have the movie now. Must watch!! As someone who thoroughly enjoyed the Monk television series, I found this film to be slow, depressing, and ill-conceived on multiple levels. Instead of continuing Monk's story in a meaningful way, the script inexplicably portrays him as a potential suicide case. Why would anyone think this was a good idea? It's a deeply disheartening way to revisit such a beloved series. From start to finish, the movie drags the viewer into a sense of darkness and dread, entirely at odds with the spirit of the original show. The plot is not only weak but also implausible. While I still have great affection for the characters, it was uncomfortable watching much older actors attempt to embody their younger selves. This was especially true for Tony Shalhoub, who lacked the vibrant spark that made Monk so endearing. Instead, his performance felt shriveled and morose throughout most of the production. As for the ending, it felt completely uninspired. If you’re curious where the idea came from, you need only watch the Twilight Zone episode “The Changing of the Guard.” It’s a shame that such a terrific series had to be capped off with this disappointing and poorly executed movie.
