Mutant Chronicles Reviews
Im stumped by the poor reviews of this film. The characters are well developed and relatable. The main character (Thomas Jane) is a world weary everyman that strives to hold on to his humanity in the very worst of times. The story revolves around a suicide mission undertaken by a small group of volunteers striving to save mankind. The action is non stop and gory. The ending is powerful and reaffirming. If you want Shakespeare or Ibsen skip this movie. If you want to watch an action movie filled to the brim with violent close quaters combat scenes held together by an uplifting and purpose driven narrative I strongly recommend giving it a view.
It was without doubt the worst movie I've ever seen. I only continued watching it out of morbid curiosity, to see how bad it actually is. It did not fail to disappoint!
I remember watching this years ago, it's not a fantastic film but it's pretty cool and entertaining!
Stupid. Waste of time.
I found its visual style to be super cool and unique. The obvious low budget and goofy looking makeup takes you back a bit. However the stellar cast keeps things interesting and fun. The plot was all over the place and the pacing felt slightly rushed, like it was heavily edited down for time.
I remember catching part of this online a few years back and thinking it must have been a bootlegged copy because of how it looked. Turns out, after seeing it on streaming on a television, it's supposed to look like that. So much c.g.i., green screen, and color distortion.... it hurts to look at. The story and idea will not stop being intriguing but it's a lot to visually digest and process, probably too much for most people.
Definitely not the greatest nor the worst thing I have seen..good blood and gore though so that's a redeeming quality for the film
This is a movie that grows on you the more times you see it. The first time i watched it, it was "meh". The second time it was on, it was just background noise, but i found myself watching it. The acting is good and the story is actually pretty interesting. The gray scale throughout the movie is a little much in my opinion. The blood and graphics leave some to be desired and the grayscale seems to light the "fakeness" of it right up. All in all, it's a pretty decent time killer.
A very trivial movie, not worth seeing. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the original ambientation of 'Mutant Chronicles'. A true disappointment to fan of the franchise and a mediocre movie for science fiction aficionados. I gets 4 out of 10.
I may be the only one, I may be blinded by the fact that i zlove Ron Pearlman. This is all a bad acting movie, the CGI - what CGI one might ask, the script is beyond poor, if you accept that the film is bad, you might just find yourdelf enjoying it.
The movie has a lot of flaws and a not very consistent story. However for some reason I still like this movie
As a fan of the Mutant Chronicles setting and games, I ask you to please try not to judge them based on this film. There are some films that are terrible as adaptations of their source material, but are still good films. Robocop 2014 is a good action film, but a lousy RoboCop film. Super Mario Brothers isn't a SMB film, and isn't good, but if you ignore the odd Mario bits, and treat it as its own weird screwball slapstick trashy comedy it's surprisingly fun. Mutant Chronicles, on the other hand, fails on basically every level. As an adaptation of the original setting... It isn't. There's basically nothing in common here beyond a vague dieselpunkish vibe and the presence of demonic forces. Only the presence, The monsters in the film are basically just zombies with a big claw, bearing no resemblance to the Dark Legion. Ignoring the games and looking at the film as its own thing: It's even worse. The plot is nonsensical, the characters bland, the effects are all over the place, ranging from flawless to laughable, the acting is terrible (Both Malkovich and Perlman deliver their worst performances I've seen). The faint praise: The action scenes aren't awful, just forgettable. And while the monster design is pathetic, the makeup and effects teams do a pretty good job with it. Avoid at all costs. This is both a bad adaptation and a bad film, on the same level as Catwoman, Fant4stic and The Last Airbender.
Many men think they're going to die brother. A few of us know it and the closer I get to my end, I find hope is my only investment worthy of my attention. ~John Malkovich Mutant Chronicles
I think this was one of the best movies I've ever stumbled upon while watching the syfy network. I'm not saying the movie was the best, but It is worth watching. Don't take the negative reviews to heart, I think this deserves a chance
I think the exiting review heavy handed I really enjoy this film it is certainly melodramatic but it's fun and exciting I think the performances are fine. Not the godfather but I watch it twice a year for good fun! Dkg
The ugly futuristic world of green-screen backgrounds, punctuated by bright red CGI gore against murky foregrounds, is inhabited by uninteresting mutants and even more indifferent, badly-acted, awkwardly-written humans.
