My Date With Drew Reviews
If you don’t take risks, you’ll Have a wasted soul.
What a pleasure this documentary was! You can easily relate with this character : a starving artist in Hollywood struggling with money, with a celebrity crush that has never gone away. He could put his game show winnings towards rent, or take a risk and go on a date with Drew Barrymore. There was never a dull moment with this movie - you genuinely liked and sympathized with Brian, felt his pain during rejections, and felt just as nervous and elated as he did when he got closer and closer to his objective, the date. Which one of us hasn't struggled with ordinary life problems that keep us down? Which one of us doesn't have a celebrity crush that will never really go away? Which one of us doesn't want to pursue our dreams, no matter the cost? This movie demonstrates the negative effects and the beauty of taking risks, and reminds us that it's worth taking all the negative blows for the beauty of pursuing our dreams. A touching, heroic, inspiring film.
There are Dreamers and there are Believers...and then there are those like Brian Herzlinger, the Dream-Believers. Since the second grade, Brian has had a crush on Drew Barrymore and now 20 years later he wants to fulfill his dream by asking her on a date. It starts with only two friends, a camera (that has to be returned to Circuit City in 30 days) and $1,100. There's one little problem though: Brian's just an average guy in L.A. - an aspiring filmmaker with no money. He has only one month and knows his chances are slim, but driven by the words of Drew Barrymore herself*, nothing will stop him, not even his mom. stars Brian Herzlinger, Drew Barrymore, Corey Feldman, Eric Roberts, John August, Allison Burnett, Bill D'Elia, George DelHoyo, Jenna Lewis, John Mann, Jon Gunn, Lauren Hays and Lily Rains. special appearance by Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. direced by Brett Winn, Brian Herzlinger and Jon Gunn
It is not a wonderful documentary, but it makes for an interesting home movie of a fan's journey. Certainly it is wonderful to see that Drew Barrymore seems to be someone who just wants to have fun and doesn't take herself at all too seriously. Fun, but not a must see.
A fun, likeable experience, but at the same its kinda hard to push one's personal disbelief aside to believe what is happening is actually documenary style reality.
Brian Herzlinger is a 30 something year old hairy-jewish man, on the brinks of being homeless, unemployed and possibly mentally unstable. The only thing that gets him motivated? Drew Barrymore, a woman (WAY out of his league) that could careless if he existed. The stalker/crush steming back from childhood memories of the 80's hit ET, with a signed polariod picture of her at 8 years old by his bedstand.... Things Only gets weirder when Herzlinger ask his (current girlfriend) about dating advice with Drew Barrymore followed by a public break-up via awkward phone call. The embarrassment hits an ultimate low when his family shuns his failing adventure on a small technicality: Herzlinger's mother disproves because she thinks Quote- unquote: "Drew Barrymore is a drunken slut". But regardless of the odds against Herzingler chances of meeting Drew Barrymore- He gets his dream Date across the country in New York and surprisingly Barrymore is just as nervous and encourages him to follow his dreams especially if they seem impossible or insane. The ending gives closure and hope- the end.
I envy and worship this man now. Not just for the drew thing, but that too. Its more the reaching out for your goal thing.
Okies you're watching an average Joe looking to get a date with Drew Barrymore. Do you think he will get the date? I mean come on the film is called my date with Drew Barrymore. Anyhu it feels like it is one of those films that believes it is pretending to be something it's not. For all we know this movie could've been dreamt up by Drew's peeps to get her name out there again and to promote the Charlie's Angels masterpieces. This would be all achieved without her having to do very much and get across her already known quirky and kindness to meet a randomer. To be honest I think you would be better watching one of Dave Gorman's projects as it has that feel and they are actually more entertaining. If the film wasn't a setup and what happens happened then fair play to the team that made this guy's dream come true. Watch out for Eric Robert's muscles. It is good to see if his acting career doesn't take off then he may have body building to fall back on lol. Give it a watch if you want pointers on meeting Drew or anyone famous but other than that it won't change your life!
An inspiring "documentary" that had me connecting with Herzlinger throughout the entire film. This guy is a kid at heart, Joe-Schmo, kind of guy, who encourages his viewers to follow their dreams, and that's what I love about this whole thing. Big thumbs up from me.
"Nice guy stalker" documentary about a guy's quest to get a date with Drew Barrymore. He's harmless and silly enough, and kudos to him for coming up with the idea.
