My Friend Dahmer Reviews

Feb 4, 2025

As much as I love Ross Lynch, he is a great actor. I don’t think he portrayed Dahmer as well as Evan peters. If you wanna look into a series that really sucks you into Jeffrey Dahmer and the story feeling more realistic, I would watch the monster series of Jeffrey Dahmer. It’s only 10 episodes long and the actors are more accurate looking. In this series, the mom and the father do not look like the actual people. And the same with Ross he does not look like Dahmer just because you give them the same haircut and glasses does not make him look like him.

This is a shockingly good movie detailing the high school years of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer - I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this production, having heard nothing about it before seeing it. I know nothing at all about this young Ross Lynch kid - apparently his background includes a Disney Channel show and being in a band or two. He is sensational here, and it's an electrifying performance that deserved awards attention. He perfectly nails this awkward adolescent, from the blank stare to the uncomfortable posture and walk. It's a performance that could have so easily gone over the top, but I believed every second of it. Sadly, the same can't be said for Heche as his mother in a performance that feels like a caricature and doesn't gel tonally with the rest of the film. The film isn't really able to explain what led to Dahmer's erosion - his home life wasn't great and he was an outcast at school, but neither to a remarkable degree. But there probably isn't one specific answer. This movie just wants to give us a glimpse into the young life of a deeply disturbed man - and it succeeds tremendously well. And Lynch's performance is one I'll remember for a long time to come.

Solid depiction of Jeffrey Dahmer's early life. Not my favorite Dahmer project but it is still worth the watch.

Based on the fantastic graphic novel, the movie version comes across as a tad flat. Not bad but the novel is far superior.

A combination of sadness and scary emotions that will make you feel bad for Dahmer and see how great of an actor Ross Lynch is.

3.5 stars; You know. A lot goes into the making of a serial killer. This movie did a good job portraying the teen years of Jeffrey Dahmer. You start with a teen going through the self identity phase of life trying to be accepted by classmates. Take into account that he was already somewhat off-center, and was living through an uncivil divorce of his parents, he was ripe for his development as a sick psychotic. Who's gang of friends But do you have a round width Saw him as a weirdo, and loved to play tricks on him. All of this played as a catalyst to Is psychosis. He developed an interest in death and what's on the insides of people that makes them tick. This fascination eventually led to him becoming a mass-murderer to a confessed list of 17 victims. Fortunately, the film ends just as he's starting down that path. Ross Lynch gave a good believable performance as Jeffery Dahmer..

this was alright. it's interesting that all this Dahmer stuff is coming out all at the same time; just finished watching the show on Netflix so figured i'd check out this film as well - i think all the actors did well. i didn't find this movie to be quite as compelling as the tv show, but if i wasn't comparing the two i think it holds it's own.

this is a must see! even if you don't know much about dahmer, it gives the most in detail view into what made him the way that he was. and David lynch did an awesome performance it makes it even better that this is his first serious performance. this movie is an all around five stars!

The actor who played Dahmer was not a good pick in my opinion. First off he was too good looking, Dahmer wasn't an ugly guy but he wasn't a smooth skinned good looking chap like this actor is. He also was too short as Dahmer had a tall quite athletic stature. Also I found his ‘Dahmerisms' as the author of the graphic novel put it, pretty lame. You get the impression from the novel that the ‘spazz impersonations' Dahmer did were quite funny, whereas the actor's ones failed miserably. I actually found Dahmer's clique to be the only ones that carried the movie. I actually thought the actor who played Derf (the author of the novel) really nailed it. Read the graphic novel instead, it's much better than this subpar adaptation.

This is very much a slow moving, character focussed drama, with a sinister/unsettling feel, for obvious reasons. Its not especially gripping but its an interesting watch never the less. I should perhaps point out that the shortened form of the term 'spastic' is uttered quite a few times, so if you'd find that offensive then you'd probably be best to avoid this film. This film is based on a book, which is based on a true story, so there is at least some truth to it. I felt the main, titular character, Jeff, was played quite well by Ross Lynch. His mostly quiet and reserved nature does make him come across as a perhaps somewhat strange person, which he must have been - he's exploited in ways to gain approval of the, I assume, somewhat 'cooler people' in high school. I think people could relate to that but that's not to say, in any way, shape or form, that I condone what he did in later life. Of course not. Its an interesting watch, perhaps somewhat slightly making me think of the film 'We Need To Talk About Kevin'. I would recommend this film, yes but only if your interested in dramas with a slow plot pace and your not offended by certain strong language, of course. Its a curious watch - is it too controversial because of how it portrays the main character? I don't know. I think its a somewhat good film but I realise it may not be for everyone.

Ross Lynch does an excellent job playing Mr Jeffrey Dahmer. the movie itself is a little bland but the soundtrack is killer (no puns).

The movie was kind of boring and long , the first hour and a half of a high school kid that tries to make friends and that's it

A serial killer biopic that takes the time to get to know it's central figure, focusing on the bothersome homelife and neglect that led to such madness, anchored by Lynch's subtle performance.

This film depicts a young, troubled, and reserved Jeffrey Dahmer and his final Demise before he infamously became the person he is known for today. I thought the film was quite clever as it depicts the perfect storm that acted as a catalyst to Dahmer's murders. For instance, his home life falling apart with emotionally unavailable parents, and being used as a scapegoat at school in an attempt to fit in with his peers. The film makes you wonder if Dahmer's fate would have been different if he was treated with a bit more love, care, and respect during his crucial adolescents? Probably not, but I like how this film gets you thinking! Kudos to Ross Lynch for a great performance. He also surprisingly resembled Dahmer quite well in the film. I also appreciated how accurate the story was showing how Dahmer was interested in roadkill and disecting animals while growing up. Overall, I definitely recommend.

This was a strong performance by Ross, but due in large part to my own ignorance I didn't end up enjoying this at all. I thought surely they would at least show Jeffrey killing one or two people, obviously not the grisly stuff he did shortly before getting caught but at least something. In every plodding scene I felt it was right around the corner and so I paid rapt attention the entire runtime instead of looking mostly at my phone, the way this was surely intended to be watched. The nature of the movie's source material meant they spent an undue amount of time on events that Backderf was present for, some of which didn't seem pivotal in Dahmer's development into a killer. The larger beef I have with this is that its relative success means there will not likely be a superior, more definitive biopic on the guy despite the intrigue that was left un-sated.
