Much better than I thought it would be. Not usually my cup of tea. Wife made me watch it and I admittedly enjoyed it.

Emma Thompson's adaptation of Christiana Brand's "Nurse Matilda" brings a wonderful family film with a powerful message and does it beautifully so with fairytale like elements. One of the best co-productions between Universal Pictures and StudioCanal since "Love Actually"

Alternate title: *Government Nanny*. Really enjoyed this and would even say it's on par with Marry Poppins, with less whimsical elements. However, that was fine in my opinion because she actually disciplines the children, while Marry Poppins just does magic for show. I'm confident that the children and father are changed for the better. My only gripe is that the marriage at the end was a little questionable (she so young!). Other than that, was a fun watch. The children's chaotic antics were fun to watch. I was hooked by the opening, "they ate the BABY!!"

With direct lessons for kids, and even parents, for those who read it hard enough, Emma Thompson's non-traditional magical nanny is a colorfully good time for the family.

Nanny McPhee is an example of a film where I was put off by the trailers, but I am glad I saw the film, because it is a lively, well meaning and very colourful film. Not to mention entertaining... there are some very amusing scenes in the early parts of the film, with the children, who all gave spirited performances. The costumes and sets are very colourful, with beautiful vivid colours, perhaps a bit too much at times, but you can't deny the look of the film was lovely. The script was absolutely delightful, very lively and entertaining. But what made this film was the performance of Emma Thompson, who was just terrific. As was Colin Firth, and I thoroughly enjoyed Angela Lansbury's turn as an elderly aristocrat. The ending was easily the best scene of the film, the visuals were just amazing in that scene, and the music by Patrick Doyle was fun too. However, adults may get tired of some of the jokes, and there are some slow moments in the middle half, but I commend the film for its messaging, that were well meaning and thoughtful. All in all, a very enjoyable film, perhaps more for children, but adults will like the visuals and Emma Thompson. 8/10 Bethany Cox

It may a more Mary Poppins style film but Nanny McPhee tells a pretty impressive story and also provides us with life lessons.

A bizarre but hugely entertaining take on Mary Poppins! Sit back with the kids and just enjoy the magic

Terrific story dealing with morals that young children deal with.

Nanny Mcphee seems like a movie from another time when the story was the main focus. Not surprising since it is based on the beloved fairy-tale books about Nurse Mathilda. That's not to say that the visuals weren't great. On the contrary the sets and effects served to enhance what is an appealing and compelling work of art. Emma Thompson is mesmerizing as the title character. Despite her initial grotesque appearance you could sense that there was more to her than meets the eye. By the time the movie ends you don't want her to leave.

The children were so over the top horrid, the father and staff so useless, and Nanny McPhee's methods so harsh I gave up after less than 30 minutes. I understand it's supposed to get better, but the first half hour was so awful I had enough by then. I can't imagine a young child not having nightmares.
