Grant Watson Fiction Machine As a conventional feature film, Night Corridor is terribly weak. As art, even if not particularly good, it retains the capacity to fascinate. Rated: 4/10 •  Feb 18, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member With his fairly impressive debut The Accident from 1999, novelist Julian lee seemed to settle himself in comfortable indie territory, somewhere between the existential angst of Wong Kar Wai and the parochialism of Mabel Cheung. The Accident furthermore gave evidence of Lee's sure hand at writing, adapting his own complex, multiple storyline novel into a perfectly filmable screenplay. Sadly, his sophomore work Night Corridor, also based on one of his own novels, contradicts wildly with first impressions, as Lee tries his hand at metaphysical horror. Applying layer upon layer of symbolism, Lee completely loses the viewer among the many, and rather superficial, references to art history. As far as atmoshere goes, Night Corridor is perfectly fine though, distancing itself from the usual Asian horror clich脙漏s in favour of some very effective shadowplay with a genuine DIY-feel to it. Props also for Daniel Wu taking on such a risky character, albeit in a pretty dull movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review
