Oaklee D A blood soaked gorefest of a zombie film that'd only Tom Savini could pull off, bolstered by the cast and a stand out performance by Tony Todd, this film is one not to miss and is a great homage to the original. I saw it as a child more than thirty years ago and it is one of my favorite zombie movies like The Return of The Living Dead (1985), Re-Animator (1985) or REC (2007). It is like a play, people who are locked in a house, inspired by The Last Man on Earth (1964). It is a fight for leadership, to have the status of importance, to see who is right in the house between Tony Todd as Ben and Tom Towles as Harry Cooper. Tony Todd 1.96 M. And Tom Towles 1.91 M. Are not so tall, there would be more difference in height with respect to women like Patricia Tallman 1.75 m. Barbara's attitude was more masculine including the haircut. She was an expert shooter. According to the script, Ben was a terrible shooter; he didn't shoot Cooper in the forehead, but he did shoot the zombies. Rated 4.5/5 Stars •  Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review DanTheMan 2 You can't help but feel a tingle of deja vu while watching the colour remake of Night of the Living Dead, fundamentally taking the same story but with just enough twists and tweaks to bring it into the 90s. It may not have been necessary but is an enjoyable revisit to what makes the living dead frightening and endlessly reanimated. We'll never get a chance to see the remake that Tom Savini set out to direct, yet the film delivers effective scares and its innovations on the original's plot remain worthy changes. Savini himself is an extremely competent director, although his tone and mood are vastly different to that of Romero; the upped amounts of gore and action are way more his speed, both of which he delivers in fantastic droves. The film is bolstered by the terrific central performances from Tony Todd and Patricia Tallman as Ben and Barbara respectively, the latter of whom has gone through a rather drastic character change from victim to vigilante, but Todd is the real winner here, he is outstanding in the role and delivers some terrific lines throughout. Despite my reservations with this remake, Night of the Living Dead is a genuinely great film in its own right, staying true where it matters and deviating when necessary to forge its own path. If you can detach yourself from the original, you may just have a blast with this one...
