No Sudden Move Reviews
First: I LOVE Gangster Movies! Second: Here you have some great actors for a decent gangster-movie, from Ray Liotta to Cheadle. But: The film takes long to develop, constantly introduces new characters, which does not make it better, but more convoluted and at the end boring. A boring gangster movie! Now that does not happen often. No surprise that Ray Liotta opted out forever a year later! Goodfellas was movie gold, this is not!
No Sudden Move never really moves.
Solderberg at his absolute best. The script had enough dimensions and twists, the performances, particularly by Vheadle and Del Toro presented high authenticity, and the cinematography really made the film pop.
Decent in the "who will have the last trick up their sleeve" way, and okay performances, but nothing to write home about for the most part.
A visually stunning film that gives literal chill, this movie shows Soderbergh at his best since Traffic (2000)
There are few convoluting plot points over their relevance that hindered a more polished conclusion to cap misdirected turns, it nonetheless remains solidly entertaining from the talented cast and the overall intellectual handling. (B+)
good acting and good plot slow at times worth seeing for the acting
Good story. Lots of twists. Well-done.
It plays out like a stage show screenplay. If you like attention to detail and dialogue, a tightly wound plot that requires reading into subtext and looking for clues, then you will appreciate this. It helps me to keep the closed captioning on to keep track of names and places. Generally a thoroughly enjoyable film noir crime caper with a director who knows what he's doing and a great cast exercising their craft; a welcome dose of humor, and a little social historical relevance, to boot!
I really enjoyed this film. 1950s/ Detroit/organized crime... good stuff here
You better be careful, because anything can happen in this crime thriller! As a hostage situation goes wrong, two criminals find themselves on the run from the criminal element of their town and begin a hesitant partnership to discover the cause. High stakes and intensively enjoyable, Soderbergh brings back the charm and wit of the oldies!
There's perhaps one too many moving parts, but otherwise No Sudden Move hums right along and fits well into Steven Soderbergh's ouevre.
Soderbergh wisely emphasizes the character and period specific setting over the MacGuffin (although it does eventually reveal itself to have some meaning) which given the cast was the right choice.
Why ami the only one who liked this movie? Despite Kiernan Culkin sounding like a squeaky teen trying to act tough, you got Don Cheadle and Benicio crushing every scene. Brendan Fraser coming back into the movie mix is such a delightful revelation of a character. John Hamm and Matt Damon sealing the deal at the end. And of course you have a decrepit Ray Liotta as an angry mobster. Bonus Bill Duke with sunglasses looking bad ass. Watch this movie if you like gangster noir.
I guess the Covid epidemic prevented this flick of ever showing up in our cinemas, but then again I haven't lost too much. Though the movie has some great and interesting twists and turns at the end, it's never really intense. It's neither a comedy nor an exciting police/gangster thriller. It just drizzles along, not being boring, but also without ever offering anything worthwhile to talk about. All in all a waste of good actors for much ado about nothing. 5/10 points.

The low scores are completely unwarranted. This is a good historical crime drama that is written, acted, shot and directed very well. Not to mention the stacked cast of A listers.
What's with the low audience score?! This is an incredible movie. Hopefully, this will be like many of the classics, not well received by initial audiences, but grows in appreciation over time. This is a compelling story. Early 60's period pieces with a gritty setting mixed with white affluence, make for an interesting backdrop to a really great plot. Do a bit of a dig and find that the big 3 auto-makers actually tried to stop the catalytic converter invention. Pretty sure the small time thugs are just pure fiction. Don Cheadle's charisma pops with this cinematography, and the bumbling surrounding characters are all believable and interesting. Highly recommend.
No idea what the high reviews are about, except being young, impressionable, and stupid. This is not good. At all.
Starts off well but becomes overcomplicated and tedious. By the half way point I didn't really care how it turned out. While it was a cool idea to use a 1960's camera lens, the fish eye was really distracting. Wouldn't watch it again, wouldn't recommend it.
