The Object of My Affection Reviews
Jennifer Aniston ❤️❤️
The romantic comedy genre is far from my favorite, but there's something about this one that really appeals to me. I question the actions and attitudes some of the characters illustrate and it gets overly complicated from time to time, but almost all is forgiven when you have a cadre of characters that you genuinely care about and for whom you are rooting. I'm not the biggest Aniston fan but this is one of her better performances. And Rudd, a ridiculously underrated actor, is nothing short of fantastic. They are surrounded by a rich group of supporting characters, and the script by genius playwright Wendy Wasserstein has a lot to recommend. This received lukewarm reviews and box office upon its initial release, but I consider it an underrated gem, with a bittersweet ending that could be considered borderline maudlin but I felt was painfully perfect.
Has a really solid cast, a cheeky premise and some clever flourishes here and there. It's a serviceable enough indie rom-com but it's fairly forgettable.
Story seems a little created or forced, maybe overly convenient but the acting all around was solid. This movie was from 20 years ago and Paul Rudd and Aniston look almost identical today . They may well be the best aging people in all of Hollywood . 2.4. I thought it was funny when Paul Rudd went out of his way to overtly sit like a gay man would . Rudd and Aniston formed a life long friendship seemingly in a few hours which didn’t particularly feel natural
The Object of My Affection (1998) Rom-Com starts off steady, then meanders, finally falling apart by the end...but I still had a fun time. Nevertheless, this film is a ONE view for me. Regardless, Paul Rudd is always enjoyable, so it was worth the watch for his early talents alone. Jennifer Maniston performs her usual customary, comfortable role. -April 2019
The Object of My Affection, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen McCauley, is a pleasant romantic comedy that asks (and tries to answer) questions about the nature of love, sex, family, and friendship. And, while some of the solutions are a little facile, the film nevertheless succeeds, due in large part to a luminous performance by Jennifer Aniston and the effectively-developed central relationship between Aniston's Nina Borowski, a pregnant twentysomething heterosexual, and George Hanson (Paul Rudd), a gay man in the same age range.
A light-hearted comedy that explores the same question WHEN HARRY MET SALLY asks, and more, with intricate romantic entanglements, more players and a detached sense of realism.
I've forgotten what a charming little movie this is with a charming little cast and remember how much it effected me when I first saw it in 1998. My, how things have changed!
Anniston Played Quite A Manipulative Woman, A Bit Naive.. Found Her Very Frustrating To Watch Here. The Other Go No-Where Stories, Tied Together With Fluffy String Just Furthered That Frustration At A 'Feel Good' Story Trying Too,Hard & Looking Nowhere Special..Ends Up A Lame Duck Romance..Vaguely, Mildly, Entertaining.
Perhaps not a masterpiece, but still an original, and sometimes even subversive film in a soft, low key kind of way. It is nice to see a mainstream production explore the complexity of non-traditional gender roles and sexual identities.
This movie is infused with the classic love triangle debacle but it's important to note that everyone is not playing for the same team. This illustrates that people can be truly happy being if they are true to themselves.
Endearing and thoughtful movie about love of all kinds, responsibilities and perceptions. Nice connection between Jennifer Anniston and Paul Rudd.
Jennifer Aniston at her best. May not be the best movie you'll ever watch, but I doubt you'll regret watching this one.
That's how you form a good romantic comedy! You have to give more to the script than a love interest and drama.Tough choices and difficulties, having to choose between romance and friendship, the movie was all about that. But it also was about how two different people can come out of the norms to form their own kind of loving home.Is it at the end possible to be who you are and still be honest to the person next to you,is it easy to fight the social norms?Jennifer Aniston was amazing in her role and Paul Rudd was just absolutely fantastic in his.He owned every scene.
I love both of them, but I didn't care much for this movie. I thought it was slow-moving, boring, and a little corny.
