Odd Thomas Reviews
Tiene unos bueno cambios en la trama pero te aburre al inicio lo repetitivo luego mejora la película siguiendo su idea de ser repetitiva.
Well, it's a very sweet enjoyable film. You will feel good about watching it. Odd and his girl are too good to be true but hey, I want to believe.
Goofy plot but the action was pretty good as were the special effects. Too supernatural for me.
I miss Anton Yelchin. Director Stephen Sommers’ horror-comedy mystery thriller Odd Thomas (2013) is super funny and engaging. Sommers delivers high octane direction that understands how to make a dark story into something charming and amusing. It’s tonally close to his movies The Mummy and Van Helsing. I was reminded of Fright Night and Jennifer’s Body as well. Screenwriter Stephen Sommers’ script delivers plenty of jokes and beautifully adapts author Dean R. Koontz’ intriguing mystery. All the demons and premonitions are interesting and it never gets too scary, so it can keep an upbeat pace and tone. It feels very clever. The main violent act being centered around Odd Thomas trying to prevent a mass shooting in a mall still feels relevant. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry your life was so short." Anton saying this line to Ashley Sommers’ dead girl’s ghost is so sad and tragic. I wish he was still with us as he simply died too young. Anton Yelchin did deliver several fun movies like Fright Night, Odd Thomas, Green Room, and Thoroughbreds at least. Anton Yelchin is delightful as the nervous and creative clairvoyant Odd Thomas. He makes for a likable and entertaining hero, who pulls off action, romance, comedy, and horror sequences. Addison Timlin is adorable and sweet as Odd’s affectionate love interest Bronwyn "Stormy" Llewellyn. Timlin is really wonderful and comes across as tender and loving towards Odd. Anton Yelchin and Addison Timlin had cute romantic chemistry. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is great as the worried mother Viola. Shuler Hensley is creepy as the sinister villain Fungus Bob. Leonor Varela gets a great freak out scene as Odd’s clairvoyant mother. Willem Dafoe is excellent as the Odd’s helper and police chief Wyatt Porter. Melissa Ordway is pretty as the blonde teenager Lysette. Nico Tortella’s strange cop Simon Varner and Kyle McKeever’s jerk cop Bern Eckles are interesting side characters. Patton Oswalt and Arnold Vosloo get funny cameos. Editor David Checel’s slick 2010’s style editing gives Odd Thomas a fast pace for 100 minutes. Cinematographer Mitchell Amundsen’s stunning close-up shots still look great. I liked the shifting wide shots with panning shots all around. The CGI holds up well with real creepy clear demons. Jaim O'Neil and Andy Ryan’s shadowy lighting looks awesome. Composer John Swihart’s exciting film score is awesome and brings a sense of suspense. Lisa Jensen’s costumes look very much from this era. In conclusion, Odd Thomas is a blast thanks to Anton Yelchin’s compelling dramatic acting and charming narration. Thanks for another pleasant movie, Anton.
I really enjoyed this. Reminded me of The Frighteners with MJF. Anton Yelchin is fantastic, and the story is great. The dialogue at times was cheesy, and not in that good way. I can overlook that with Anton’s performance and he was a talent that will be sorely missed.
I just loved it. Unique and great storyline. Wish this was turned into a series.
I can only imagine, given the often low scores in Rotten Tomatoes, that there are a lot of disgruntled, grumpy, overly critical or just plain bloody minded people who rate movies on this site. My own experience of movies covers nearly eighty decades (+ some movies going back to very early days, Nosferatu anyone? Odd Thomas is an enjoyable, well made movie with very good to perfectly acceptable performances. This is my second viewing, and neither time did anything jar to take me out of its influence. There are good twists; lovely, disgustingly creepy wraiths (?); a revolting dead body; and an emotionally strong finish. To start off, it has the look and feel of a shallow, typical, teen titillator. That soon changes to forebode serious, supernatural shenanigans. It may never become a classic but it strongly suggests and deserves a television series.
Weak story telling. Poor, amateurish dialog. There's some incredibly bad acting here.
Brilliant underated comedy horror
I loved this movie. Oscar-worthy? Absolutely not, but cleverly done and sweet from start to end. Great story.
Ce film est un véritable chef d'oeuvre. Le scénario est extrêmement bien écrit, très fidèle au livre, nous servant des personnages attachants et très bien développé, avec une personnalité riche. Les thèmes qu'il aborde sont également très bien traités.
I liked this movie a lot. If you like movies about ghosts and evil spirits, you'll love this movie. It has an ending that I did not expect. I highly recommend this movie.
Great movie!!! Highly underrated. The story arc draws you in and ramps up as the movie goes. There's action and some light flirty romance. Its like a scifi mystery/crime movie, serious with some comedy. Heartbreaking twist at the end that you wont see coming. One of my all time favorites.
Though the movie could use a remake and possibly as a series. I really enjoyed this movie and don’t get the bad reviews. The late Anton Yelchin carried the film well.
I really enjoy Dean Koontz but this movie was a mess.
This movie has an interesting story, it's well written and the acting is solid. Time well spent. It's a simple mystery with a supernatural element and a predictable sequence of events. What makes the movie good is the dialogue, the chemistry between the main characters and the world building.
I really enjoyed this. An endearing lead and a compelling plot , with a heart warming/heart wrenching thread thrown in.
I enjoyed the movie a lot. The acting was a bit shitty sometimes especially that of stormy. But odd did a really good job. Even though I got a kid like feel from some of the dialogue, which really does not fit. But the ending was really well done, never expected it. Also just a great idea for a story, ofcourse based on a book.
