Open Season Reviews

Apr 16, 2025

This ‘comedy’ fails to have more than a minute of mid gags, but hey - at least the animation is ok.

Open Season is Great! This movie is absolutely underrated. A lot of the jokes are pretty funny, the soundtrack is great, and the Voices are spot-on! I feel like everyone forgot this movie. This needs to be talked about More. It's a good movie (especially if you like hunting) for the family!

Unfortunately not everybody is gonna love this. But this movie was my childhood, and I loved It.

One of the most underrated animated movies, and while some people may not enjoy it, I certainly do. The main character Boog is the reason I love the Open Season franchise. At first he enjoyed living in captivity as Ranger Beth's pet, but eventually after being taken to the forest. He learns to adapt to a whole new lifestyle of living in the woods deciding to stay with his best friend Elliot, and the other animals after defeating Shaw. I personally prefer Open Season more than Over The Hedge, and funny thing I used to mistake Over The Hedge as part of the Open Season franchise when I was younger. 2006 was certainly not a terrible year for animated movies it was truly an underrated year for animated movie in my opinion, even if there were some bad movies that released in the year 2006, which Open Season isn't one of them.

Very cute and funny. The first time I watched I didn't really like it but my siblings did...so there I was sitting at a movie slowly likeing it. Recommend watching it more than 3 times because after the third time it starts to grow on you.

To be honest, I really like this movie. One of the things I loved about is the good cast it has! Like Martin Laurence and Ashton Kutcher? Dude. They seemed like a perfect cast, and I appreciate it even more, because they did have to change it on every sequel. The characters in this movie are pretty good, but Ian and Mcsquizzy might honestly be the best characters. Not like one of my favorite movies, but a movie I could watch if I had to. But if you want, maybe you could give it a try.

Easily one of the better films of Sony and this is a great start for them because open season has the feel of a dreamworks picture lots of funny comedy along with likable charachters I loved the chemistry between the bear and the deer and the story of how he learned to get used to the wild and making friends with other wild animals and speaking of which I like where this film takes place it’s looking like a huge Forrest land where hunters hunt and reminds me to question if it’s Idaho, or Montana or Canada either this movie makes me visit such a place and watch it in a log cabin this was such a good movie and I don’t know how anyone would not like it it’s too bad they didn’t give an animated feature Oscar to it it was deserving of one and another thing that makes this film so interesting besides the inspiring set up and premise is the music soundtrack of Paul westerner which has the style of a foo fighters alternative rock music they were heartwarming. One of the most highly entertaining moments is that river chase where boog and Elliot accidentally breaks the damm and nearly drowns all the other animals while that hunter Shaw ( who has a great charachter design that accuractly depicts a hunter from the northwest wood areas and territories ) attacks and tries to shoot them. Along with that final climax where the animals fight back the hunters along with the showdown between boog and Shaw and that ending made me saw when he had to depart from his owner as he is now grown up to be living in the wild. Martin Lawrence is funny in this just as he was in bad boys he did a great job voicing the bear. And the director Roger allers ( who made the Disney masterpiece the lion king ) did a terrific job directing this animated motion picture I highly reccomend this to anyone who loves animated films even if this is not as good as others 8/10

Watched the other sequels before finally having the chance to watch this original ones. For an adult, this is consider cheesy, but there are many things worth noting. There were many laughable scenes in the movie and made me understood why this movie is called Open Season. The originality of how various animals get together and being collaborative is mind boggling. The chemistry between Beth and Boog brings a story that emphasizes love and respect for one another. The sequels after this, although have their uniqueness cannot beat the efficiency and positiveness from this first one in the series.

Wait…… This is Sony animations very first movie? Okay. It’s not bad but honestly it could‘ve been better. Here’s the stuff I liked: the backgrounds are beautifully gorgeous, the animation is actually pretty good, I really enjoyed the relationship between the Martin Lawrence bear and his human mother, the villain was enjoyable, and finally the voice acting was solid. Here’s the stuff I didn’t like: the movies writing is basically just Shrek and Ice Age again, the pacing sucks, the slapstick gets on my nerves, and the god damn Ashton Cutcher dear is so annoying. Overall it’s not a perfect start to the studio. It’s a 5/10.

Fairly underrated: while "Open Season" is far from the best animated movie, it is still an overall enjoyable watch.
