Out of Darkness Reviews
Tense and creepy. Started great and gets a little dumb at the end
Good horror movie. Very visual and the story fresh and different. The film well worth a watch . I enjoy it's fresh take on a survival horror movie. The ending was shocking and a good twist
Keren dan mantap cocok banget
Pretty small film, it would help to know what a neanderthal is.
Out of Darkness was masterfully executed. A brilliantly shot, phenomenally acted, and beautifully/grippingly directed thriller. The trailers make it seem more like a brutal, terrifying horror picture, but it’s actually more of a Hitchcockian or Kubrickian exercise in deliberate pacing, tone, and thematic precision that feels richer than it’s shockingly tight runtime (only 90mins!!!) suggests. If you can, try to catch it in theaters. It’ll still be impactful at home on streaming, sure, but with the surround sound of a cinema and the massive screen, the experience really is heightened. If you dug 2022’s Prey and/or classic Twilight Zone, you’ll for sure dig it.
Panalo. Aakalain mo na isang crature feature tong effective horror na to. May kakaibang twist sa ending na lalong magpapa excite sayo.
Andrew Cumming’s “Paleolithic horror” film blows away expectations and portrays a story concerning humanity’s most basic instincts and the struggle for survival. Set in Upper Paleolithic Europe, a group of humans (Safia Oakley-Green, Chuku Modu, Kit Young, Lola Evans, Luna Mwezi, and Arno Leuning) arrive in a strange land and are seemingly hunted by a malevolent monster and/or spirit. We use the term “tribalism” in political discourse nowadays, but in Out of Darkness, it’s portrayed in its truest form. From the beginning, we see the first “othering,” scapegoating, and descent into violent superstition. The RT (86/55) must be in some part due to the mischaracterization of this movie. This is far from a pure “horror” film and I’m sure that annoyed plenty of viewers, especially after the First Act. That being said, what the film truly does is show a contained story concerning the perpetual struggles that befit humankind itself, and it’s done excellently. I loved the direction, action, message, and final line/shot of this movie. Throw into it a well-crafted fictional language (called “Tola” here, which is influenced by a mix of Basque and Arabic) and Out of Darkness becomes a 5-star movie. (Although it was shown at film festivals in 2022, it was not shown in theatrical release until 2/2024.)
I liked the movie, the scenography is very good and you feel the tension before the unknown and the despair that the characters can feel in the face of adversity such as the unknown, the hunger they suffered, etc. It's worth it.
Fantastically scary and well done. Loved it.
Though substantially unbalanced per its buildup, it’s rather fresh with an unprecedented subtextual impact across both myth and territory towards conjuring decent suspense upheld by raw forms. (B)
Buena fotografía, buena idea, pero falla en la construcción física de los personajes, además es muy básica la creación del suspenso.
The whole movie is in a fictional language, so you must read subtitles. It wasn't scary or even suspenseful.
An Ambitious High Concept Stone Age Thriller
Too convoluted and far too foreboding and broodish in tone for what was revealed. I was not expecting subtitles, but if you like subtitles and plenty of dark scenes than you might like this, I did not like this. Didn’t know what language they were even speaking, very little to connect with.
The movie wants to be a horror but it only manage to be horrible... No tail, no traceable timeline... Just a poor shot dark want to be waste of time...
My goodness. This one makes me not want to go to the movies ever again
All of the actors look waaaaay too clean-cut and modern to be set 45,000 years ago. I tried to overlook that and get into the movie, which worked for a while, until the disastrously ludicrous ending. It seems like they attempted some kind of social commentary but executed it badly.
What a load of malarky from the tailored clothes, *dies laughing* "IN THE STONE AGE?" to the great skin and teeth, to the why are we not focused on what our ancestors were actually focused on, to the... oh wait, obviously they just hired 20-something to make a gotcha movie, and get your money. Waste.
Definitely surpassed my expectations! This is a movie you feel over a movie you really watch, you have to read the subtitles but overall you very quickly get a feel for the characters and the bleakness of their situation. If you're looking for something different, this movie is definitely it.
Shot mainly in gloom, mist, or semi-darkness; characters without personality; deaths at the hands of who knows what for who knows why. Don't be fooled by the eco-message pretensions. A mess from start to finish.
