Playmobil: The Movie Reviews

Even when you remove the comparisons to The Lego Movie, it’s a redundant tale with little artistic difference to dozens of other films like it. At best the film is a 90 minute distraction, and at worst it’s a cynical marketing ploy.

Filmmakers are working its way down to the very bottom of the toy box with Playmobil: The Movie.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 12, 2022

"...great adventures and a heartwarming sibling relationship, it is unable to offer anything past what others have been able to achieve before it."

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 27, 2020

It might be a generic animated adventure for most of its runtime, but there's a sense of uncomplicated joy to Playmobil: The Movie that makes it a really enjoyable ride.

I could barely get through Playmobil: The Movie without falling asleep, but my two young daughters loved it - so that has to say something, right?

| Original Score: .5/5 | Mar 18, 2020

There is a gentleness and simplicity to the adventure-seeking vibe of Playmobil: The Movie that will work particularly well for very young audiences.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 27, 2019

A mess.

| Original Score: 0/5 | Dec 12, 2019

This is a vastly inferior toy-to-film IP expansion, with duller songs, dumber jokes, and forgettable voice work.

| Original Score: 0/5 | Dec 12, 2019

Akin to a cheap toy knockoff of toxic materials, Playmobil wields whimsy that is generic, tiresome, and probably isn't safe for young children.

| Dec 12, 2019

There's a plot in there somewhere, but most of the time it's subsumed by a frenetic attempt to showcase the whole Playmobil range in an extended kinetic eruption of primal sound and primary colour.

It feels like they put 1000 ideas into a bucket and picked one out each week to create the script

| Original Score: 2/10 | Dec 11, 2019

There's very little in "Playmobil" to suggest the film isn't just a convenient tour of the playsets you can find at your local department store toy aisle.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Dec 10, 2019

Bland and unoriginal but may still amuse young kids.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 10, 2019

Playmobil manages the live-action part, but without any clever twists.

| Dec 9, 2019

...a naked attempt to cash in on the miscellaneous, successful Lego movies.

| Dec 9, 2019

Playmobil: The Movie isn't as funny as some of the direct-to-video Lego-related movies, either, and that's very much the field it competes in, theatrical release or not.

| Original Score: C- | Dec 9, 2019

Best watched running in the background of a playdate for pre-schoolers, buried under the noise of kids' own imaginations but offering the occasional distraction from a total toddler meltdown.

| Dec 7, 2019

Playmobil: The Movie is everything we feared the first LEGO Movie was going to be.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Dec 7, 2019

The story just rambles and stumbles and bumbles its way along... It's pretty dismal.

I had to fight to stay awake in my otherwise completely empty theater, and had I dozed off I don't think I really would have missed anything or cared. (Full Content Review for Parents - Violence, Scary Moments, etc. - also Available)
