Critics Consensus

A delightfully postmodern fairy tale, The Princess Bride is a deft, intelligent mix of swashbuckling, romance, and comedy that takes an age-old damsel-in-distress story and makes it fresh.

Susan This movie is an absolute classic. As the grandfather says, it has romance, pirates adventure, Magic, revenge, and justice! Beautifully shot, the actors are great. The dialogue is witty – no reason not to love this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/25 Full Review Christina Not watching this in the theater isINCONCEIVABLE! ) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review A R Ever since I was in High School..I have continued to watch this movie over decades countless of times and IT.....NEVER.....GETS.....OLD. My kids even love it! Though it doesn't have the depth of the story from the book(so much more backstory...it's a must read), it is perfectly cast. I had the biggest crush on Robin Wright when I saw this movie. Billy Crystal was hillarious! The humor, sense of adventure, old fashion story telling, iconic dialogue, and just as important, a STELLAR soundtrack. The music will stick with you for decades! When I watched the reunion video, I can absolutely understand why Mandy Patinkin got emotional when he reflected on watching a rough cut of the movie. His wife asked him..."what's the matter? What's wrong? " "Because I never dreamed, that I would get to be in a movie like this." It's one of those movies that stands the test of time. A classic for any generation. That is incredibly difficult to accomplish and execute. BRILLIANT MOVIE! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/10/25 Full Review Daniel C. M A magical, beautiful and full-of-charm escapist fantasy for all ages. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/03/25 Full Review Leo W One of the best movies ever done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/03/25 Full Review Hex x Honestly a stellar movie. Completely classic, and will always stand as a great movie. The characters are charming and the world is beautiful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review Read all reviews
