The Protector Reviews
Tom-Yum-Goong is a 2005 Thai martial arts film directed by Prachya Pinkaew and stars Tony Jaa in the lead role. The fights were choreographed by Jaa and his mentor Panna Rittikrai. The film was distributed as Warrior King in the United Kingdom, as The Protector in the United States, as Thai Dragon in Spain, as Revenge of the Warrior in Germany and as Honor of the Dragon in Russia and CIS countries. In India, it was named as Haathi Mere Saathi from a name of another Bollywood film starring Rajesh Khanna. Vision wrote: "this film reminded me of Rumble in the Bronx and Fist of Legend. With his ability to use objects surrounding him during fight scenes and his bone-breaking tactics, Tony Jaa is the Jackie Chan and Jet Li of Thailand. He owns his own realm. No doubt. Traditional Thai mixed with international Thai. Just brilliant. Memorable story, convincing martial arts from Tony Jaa, Johnny Tri Nguyen and Nathan Jones, comical acting from Petchtai Wongkamlao and brilliant action choreography. They even brought back Eddy from Tekken. Tom-Yum-Goong was better presented than Ong-Bak's choppy editing. Four and a half fries!"
Like and the best 🤩🤩🤩
The ending is a good and badass.I rather listen to robs zombie music then movies cause there pretty disturbing.
i also train muay boran and tony jaa is my idol but i keep this review professional!! tony jaa actually did that staircase scene in one take (rip camera man :D) and most of his stunts. but story is good for those that understand the culture of this country but for those that don't its hard to believe why he (like) kills people for elephant!!! (example my big sister that is also intrested from self defence and she asked me that why he killed that dude in certain scenes!)
A insane and great time This Thriller is a stupid movie but by god it's entertaining
Terrible directing and editing. Movie didn't make sense and the action scenes were not up to par compared with Ong Bak 1.
I know this isn't a great film, but it is a superb exhibition of martial arts and I adore the ever-loving guts out of it. It gets five stars because reasons.
Despite the holes in the plot and disposable humor, the film is strengthened by the impressive fighting scenes with an acrobatic Tony Jaa without fear of indulging in the intensity of stunt punches and kicks.
I seem to be watching a lot of movies lately where the beginning of the film interests me a lot, but then the rest of the movie doesn’t live up to the promise of those early scenes. The Protector fell prey to this problem. I think the issue is the shift in tone as soon as our main character heads to Australia. What started out as a fairly serious film about a boy devoted to following in his father’s footsteps, and protecting their beloved elephants shifts into this insane action-comedy in the vein of a James Bond movie from the Roger Moore era. There’s even a wacky policeman who joins forces with the main character as they rush into enemy territory seemingly with no plan at all seeking the stolen elephants. That’s not to say that this shift in style and tone turns it into a bad film, just a different one. The plot (and any story logic) takes a back seat to the crazy kung fu action. This is a lot of fun to watch, and Tony Jaa is an amazing fighter, but I like a plot that flows a little smoother. Even the way the kung fu is presented is exaggerated, as a single kick can send people flying through the air several yards, a punch can send someone through a wall, or people can defy the laws of physics for a few moments in order to make a cool move. That being said, The Protector was definitely enjoyable. While the plot took a back seat to the action, and the comedy seemed to come out of nowhere, I still like all those elements so I had a good time and I’d watch it again.
