Wenlei Ma News.com.au Ralph Breaks the Internet would've been a fun but soulless movie if not for its nuanced and necessary story about friendship. Rated: 4/5 Dec 26, 2018 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) Movies don't get more timely than Ralph Breaks the Internet - an exhilarating yet dismaying sequel to 2012's Wreck It Ralph, for my money easily the smartest and most endearing Disney animated feature of recent years. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 21, 2018 Full Review Guy Lodge London Evening Standard Conceptually, it's rather ingenious, with well-aimed barbs at abusive commenter culture and social-media narcissism that adds up to a welcome moral for small fry... Rated: 3/5 Dec 2, 2018 Full Review Calum Cooper Source (Scotland) It certainly doesn’t rank among the higher standards of modern animations like Inside Out or Coraline. But it’s vibrant and funny, and it has charm to spare. Rated: 3/5 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn Despite some minor flaws with logic, Ralph Breaks the Internet is a great addition to Disney's modern filmography and is another winner for the series Nov 22, 2023 Full Review Kate Boyle InSession Film The animation techniques continue to amaze me. jeff k One of the best animated films of all time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/25 Full Review Blu B The musics pretty good and so is the voice acting. Ralph & Glitch are the two best characters, no shocks there. Everything else isn't bad but the problems this has are numerous and unique. First off in terms of other returning characters, there just forgotten about for the most part and not really in this beyond the opening before they go into the internet. Second, in terms of new characters most of them are aren't bad but none of them have much depth and are more just side characters that border on NPCs than anything of substance. To it's credit it focuses on the main duo the entire time. But in the middle it divides them up with Ralph going to the Dark Web and the other going into her new game. And it just becomes sort of jumpy and not as fluid when there together. In terms of the setting it's a cool idea to go into the internet and it is colorful, lively, and original (One could say the Emojii Movie was first I guess) but it's not that memorable. The direction is pretty good though and elevates it somewhat. the biggest crux here though is the product placements and references. Good God there is SOOOO many. The Disney Princesses scene was so unneeded, every major internet tech company besides Microsoft, Ebay, tons of Disney IP, and it just becomes so distracting. The first is a love letter to video game IPs of old with original characters. This is just straight the actual companies of the internet advertising in this with nothing original or clever. same problem the Emojii Movie has. And none of it is in a subtle or natural way. The humor in this...is kind of flat. It's internet culture humor and it's ...yeah. Ralph trying to be viral, Ralph reading internet comments, Ralph figuring out the ins and outs of the internet. The record of movies that try this type of humor is worse than Detroit Pistons losing streak. (Yeah that won't be dated either right?) Finally, the actual message of letting go but not growing apart is kind of forgotten about in all the antics, product placements, orgettable new characters, and threading familiar waters of the first. It feels like were basically in a sense repeating the same arcs these two went through in the first with a different message sort of. The ending I just felt like it was alright too with them being cool being apart and was just sort of ehh alright if your cool I'm cool than with it. It's a fun enough time still I guess if your a big fan of animated flicks or any voice actors in this. It's nowhere near as good as the first though and most I think would'nt miss out skipping this honestly.
