Ravenous Reviews
One of most underrated horror 90's movies. I have some issues with eating meat after watching this gruesome flick.
A decent film with an interesting premise; well thought out and definitely well worth a watch. Guy Pearce seems miscast and he goes through the film in an apparent daze, but Robert Carlyle is riveting.
I was intrigued by the plot, but the disjointed soundtrack just felt very out of place, and really did not help me to immerse myself into the viewing experience of the film. And it pains me to say such a thing, especially when I found out that one of the contributors of the soundtrack was none other that the primary music contributor of the Gorillaz himself, Damon Albarn.
Sometimes a movie is released at the wrong time. This is one of those movies and this is the time to watch. I watched this by accident many years ago and just recently caught it for free on you tube. Beautifully filmed with great acting and a musical score that just works. It must be said that this is a mature movie that does contain graphic violence so, say no to the kiddos and if you are squeamish then there are other movies. I happen to enjoy mature themed movies when they are well made and this one is. Enjoy.
It's perfectly weird. I get why critics don't like it, but it scratches an indescribable itch for me. It also helps that Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle make the weirdness believable.
Absolutely riveting, all star cast, great acting and gripping musical score. Most horror movies aspire to deliver the punch to the gut Ravenous delivers
Basically a flawless horror film. Incredibly scary folk horror. Windigo mytholgoy!
A mess but a memorable one. The score is fantastically offbeat.
Top 5 movies ever to me. Accidentally started watching it one night, and I couldn't get up...it was that good.
Underrated gem of a comedic thriller. Essentially a vampire movie set amongst the Mexican American war, the film is enjoyable and unpredictable.
This is actually my favorite movue of all time i have watch a lot of movies too. So underrated, masterpiece.
This movie is a masterpiece and I will die on this hill to defend it.
Some weird Red Dead Redemption vibes in here. As trashy as freshy, nice music tho.
Pitch black comedy, perfected in its way how its able to bring tension, laughs, incredible character creations and great plot. Not for everyone but i would consider it a masterpiece in its genre
A cleverly allegorical horror-thriller that uses cannibalism as a stand-in for the callous practices unique to the American identity - manifest destiny, "killing to live". Bleakly comedic, Ravenous takes some genuinely creepy thriller territory (think the damp and stressful combat from The Revenant, but infused with cannibalism and wendigo legends) and adds on both moral conflicts and some lively back-and-forth between Guy Pearce (as a haunted less-than-heroic veteran that hints at the shattered American ideal the film probes at) and Robert Carlyle's self-obsessed, Machivellian antagonist. The film functions well as a horror, testing the unsettling limits of what might happen in the dangerously optimistic land of opportunity that is the American frontier. But as the film evolves, cannibalism goes from generic villainous trait to moral choice, as several characters weigh their own survival against the lives of others. Some battle with the implications, others embrace it wholesale; it is, after all, their right based on what God and the world has laid before them. Spooky and satirical in equal measure, Ravenous was misjudged by critics upon release but has fortunately received some much-deserved attention from the cult crowd in the years since. (3.5/5)
The movie as some good way to build tension and the main antagonist is pretty intimidating. There is some interesting twists there. This movie would have been better if it took itself more seriously. The editing seems to force a B movie style. For example, right during the opening credit there is something wrong with how the names appear with whiff sounds and cheap music. By the way, the music is hit or BIG miss in it, in one scene in particular the music sounds way too cartoonish for a horror scene. I know that an old time western cannibal movie sounds a great concept for a B movie but with this particular story and script, you feel like if they have let themselves being darker and moodier it would have greatly benefited the experience.
I honestly love this movie. It has one of the best casts of any movie, the score is simply paradise, the plot of absolutely perfect, and Robert Carlyle is simply perfect for his role in this movie. You absolutely must see this movie.
This was ok I suppose. It wasn't the best film by a long way but it also wasn't the worst. It was an above-average drama/thriller. It wasn't too exciting and the comedy seemed misplaced. It kept my attention but didn't set me alive. It is good but probably only worth sitting through once.
Ravenous is spectacular from beginning to end. My friend in high school showed me it and it's been a favorite ever since. I never loved westerns until this. Best blend of gore and accidental humor. I make everyone I know watch it.
I've read all the reviews on here and they all seem to try to be clever with what they say. I'm just going to say it straight .... It makes no sense. Not JUST the story either but the directing, editing, everything! Just make an interesting zombie film, stop trying to be clever
