Riding the Bullet Reviews

Nov 3, 2024

If one is a KIng addict there's nothing to say this is good.

Sick day movie marathon pt 1: an enjoyable Stephen King adaptation. David Arquettes role was the highlight of the film.

Watching footage of "the bullet" on YouTube for an equal runtime would be more riveting and plot driven than this film.

I watched this movie 5 times and still have absolutely no clue what on earth this is about. Apparently nobody else could figure it out either. I love the sound track though.

A convoluted mess with nothing interesting going on.

I am a huge fan of Stephan kings short stories and novels and this particular short story which was published in the book "everything's eventual" was one of my all time favorites. The movie made changes that didn't make the story better but worse. Like having the main character suicidal (not in the book) and having the ghost George stubs manner of death being that he was in a car accident. Instead, in the book, he says he rode the bullet and was decapitated while riding it. This makes way more sense and connects with the billboard he sees. They didn't need to add a girlfriend either. The original story was excellent on it's now without these silly changes.

Weird story. But that's normal for Stephen King, wasn't it ?

Never heard of it but it was free from the local library. Watched it and was pleasantly surptised. Fairly well done and pretty true to Stephen King's style. Some gratuitous crap but not bad. David Arquette is usually good.

Not as bad as I was expected, but it doesn't really mesh its horror well with the more "serious" dramatic beats it tries to hit.

The short story was bad but it was still better than this confusing mess.

Riding the Bullet is definitely not a masterpiece by any means. But it did entertain me. Maybe not in the way it intended, but it did so nonetheless. Although I was spending most of my time asking "Wait, what's going on here?" I also wondered what might happen next, enough to carry on until the end of the story. The film has a very tongue-in-cheek manner, and it is definitely not a horror film. It's more of a dramatic comedy with few horror elements. There were some moments that were abstract (perhaps a little too abstract, because I remember making WTF faces through it), which might have been okay if not for the odd episode that acted as a literal vehicle for the protagonist. I kind of get what this adaptation was going for, so I'll let it pass on some of its flaws... but it still also has too many for me to consider it wonderful, or worth a second viewing. Watch at your own risk, and hopefully you like misplaced humor.

This movie is hard to get through. It doesn't really go anywhere. In other words, there seems to be no real significant pay-off. Its not worth watching. The lead character is not very interesting or likable either.

Ugh, I wasted an evening on this garbage. At least I finally freed up the space on the DVR...

140930: I'm tempted to do 3.5. Much better than Thinner and includes a cool car. Some enjoyable characters especially in David Arquette. Ok way to spend an hour and a half.

It was all over the place but it was ok. I liked the scenes at the amusement park best. The story in the book is much better.

76% "It seems the longer you live, the more God wants to kick you in the ass."-Farmer (Cliff Robertson) One of Garris better movies (CRITTERS 2: THE MAIN COURSE is still my favorite). -Fun is fun and done is done-

Decent Stephen King Movie....

Labouring horror-story that feels like one of King's shorts that doesn't quite cut it at feature length.
