Anthony Lane The New Yorker It's like watching the revival of a forgotten art form; the fact that it's done with a minimum of special effects makes it all the more stirring. Daniel C. M Veteran thriller director John Frankenheimer conceives the last great hit of his career, and it's a shame it wasn't the actual last of his career, as that would've been a very high and respectable note. How he managed to sucessfully turn a script that was essentially Pulp Fiction clone with more action in the middle into this spectacular and breathtaking film is beyond me. It is very noteworthy that this was the last true action thriller made by Hollywood that features car chases with literally no CG at all, and it succesfully manages to be infinitely more pleasing and mesmerizing than all the others that came afterhand. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/18/25 Full Review Frans B One of the best movies ever. Some of the best car chase scenes ever. Stunningly, almost whole movie was shot on location, except for 2 very short scenes. Expert directing from Frankenheimer and incredible cinematography techniques. The legendary cast all excels in character. Suspense, thrilling, lots of action and twists. Must see Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review D H Ronin, directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Robert De Niro, is a sharp, stylish action thriller that delivers exactly what it promises—tight pacing, high-stakes tension, and some of the best car chases ever put on film. I found Ronin to be a solid, gripping experience. The movie wastes no time throwing the audience into a world of shadowy mercenaries, shifting loyalties, and covert missions, all centered around a mysterious briefcase everyone is willing to kill for. The action feels grounded and intense, with practical stunts and a refreshing absence of CGI, making every gunfight and chase sequence feel dangerously real. Ronin isn’t flashy, but it’s built on craft, tension, and old-school action filmmaking. If you like your thrillers smart, tough, and packed with practical stunts, this one is definitely worth your time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review Elvis R Literally the most solid movie. The love story between Jean Reno’s character and Robert Deniro’s is perfection. An action adventure movie distilled down to its essence in a way that didn’t seem escape the 90’s. If I still had cable this would be an always watch. Now a days it is just a boop away and I boop often. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/09/25 Full Review William R. P I had seen it before, but I couldn't remember it Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/10/25 Full Review Johannes S A very decent action movie with great chase scenes, however, it feels a bit bland as it's missing flair to be a great movie.
