I liked this movie. For starters, it has good cinamtography and a great sound track. I loved the opening horse riding scene, which really defines the movie, and feels like a music video. While the story is both unique and novel, it's also easy to relate to. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are on top form delivering real screen presence with loads of chemistry and charisma. I liked the way the reporter starts out as the hunter, and ends up as the prey which is a neat twist. The pacing is just right with plenty of interesting scenes to keep the viewer hooked. All in all, it's a very satisfying film, with a happy ending.

Dull piece of garbage. Both main characters in this movie are unlikable as hell. She ditches people at the alter and ruins their lives. He writes exaggerated news reports with horrifically unreliable sources and stalks the person he's wrote the report on. You know, how most rom-coms should go. Admittedly, as awful as they are, they probably are perfect for each other, but it's a terrible idea to make these dirtbags the lead characters of a romantic comedy. Furthermore, no rom-com with a simple concept like this should be two hours long, many scenes here could have been trimmed and/or cut down significantly with no effect on the plot. The audience knows how the thing's gonna end, the movie doesn't need to stretch the predictable plot out this long. Evidently, the film's budget was spent on the ultra-famous cast instead of the script.

Funny title, cheesy plot, and bits of humor here and there. Julia Roberts's beauty was not a joke in this movie and other romance films. I did not see Pretty Woman, but hopefully once I do I can try to do a comparison between this and Runaway Bride. The chemistry between the supporting cast was good, especially between Roberts and Joan Cusack. The simplicity of the setting, with the naive story of man and woman suddenly marry without getting to know each other makes a fairy tale too good to be true.

I was enjoying the movie but did not like the comments on the Hindu Goddess and God and also about other religion, if you don't know the whole story about Goddess should not make bad comments, it hurts religious person, and ruins the whole fun about the movie. I know its very old movie and at that time, people didn't speak up but still, these shouldn't have happen. Film maker /production needs to consider everyone and not make fun of God or Goddess.

I loved it. Creative and funny. It has characters to care about.

Entirely predictable but pleasant enough. Chugs along to its inevitable conclusion as rom coms always do

Silly rom com that left me wondering why I watched it. It was on amazon.

Despite its formulaic and silly story, Runaway Bride is still a charmer. Julia Roberts has a charisma that buoys up every scene that she's in, even though Richard Gere comes off a little wooden and I don't completely buy their blooming relationship. This romantic comedy swings for the fences and, despite not hitting a home run, it's a movie I wouldn't mind watching again every now and then.

This is a really cute movie in which Julia Roberts plays Maggie (Carpenter, isn't it?), who is the runaway bride. Richard Gere play a report writing a story about her, and, of course, the two fall in love. He sees what's going on and how she loses herself, and she ends up turning in her "running shoes" to him. I watched this movie in the last quarter, I think, of 2005, in our Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas duplex, where Grant and I lived, and my child had a bedroom downstairs in the finished basement. I had already seen it then, too, and it is on again today, here at the Maggard residence.

The chemistry still works and the film is cute enough.

Even when they slow dance after being with the audience for a while, I didn't see any spark. Runaway Bride The director Gary Marshall, I think, didn't see this coming. And I know no one presumes the film to perform bad. But there is a certain level of expectations, a ballpark figure, a certain range that it would cover. This is a total disaster. And to be honest I can see what could be the birth of this idiosyncratic idea that it plants so proudly in this farm. But as I have always said an idea isn't everything. At least we can agree in this show business by now is that no idea is stupid. The depiction of a smart idea done poorly comes off stupid. And no matter how stupid an idea, if executed carefully, we have seen such films turn classic instantly, take MASH for example- the Donald Sutherland one. But if a stupid idea is project stupidly, it's a stupid film, in capitals; just as stupid as using this word these many times. Still I'd like to defend the film. And you can only do it with Julia Roberts, its finest asset colored totally lazy in the film. The film's actual odd and even contradicting nature comes because of her character and still there is a lot to explore there. That is of course, not to say that the storyline in any manner justifies the decisions of the film. But for a brief period, her character shows us something profoundly mirroring to what our society whips us with religiously. And when that note, which is either rushed on questionably or the makers were not aware of the magnitude of its brilliance, hits the screen there is a comforting realization and surprise in our face that a film of this genre usually does not offer us. Runaway Bride is still a forgettable date movie, I mean I can't even promisingly say that there is some chemistry.

This movie was a kick! Best of all were the "small town" cast and hilarious one-liners. Rotten Tomatoes critics are crazy to pan this movie. And yes, there was great chemistry between Roberts and Gere. Took me years to see this flick, and I loved it.

Julia Roberts can do no wrong, except when she is put in movies with Richard Gere. I will never understand his appeal.

The movie was well written and very interesting to watch as well. Maggie, the main character has been searching for a romantic love, rather than the lust relationships she has mistaken for romantic ones. Just like many women, she has the ambition to get married. As a columnist, when Ike hears about this woman who continually abandons her fiance's at the alter, he is quick to search for her. With time the two end up falling in love and although they are not the traditional family, with two kids and a mother and a father, they still share a common love for each other as described in the relational dimension. Maggie's friends also act as family to her as well although there is no legal or biological tie. However, there is love between them as well as support for each other.
