A group of convicts escapes a jail in the Colorado Rockies, and the local sheriff, Scott (Arthur Franz), vows to capture them without firing a shot. The posse he forms, however, hardly shares his pacifist views -- especially Jaynes (Richard Reeves), a bartender who takes joy in the idea of gunning down his fellow man, and worrying about the consequences after the fact. As the search party pursues the fugitives, Scott and Jaynes engage in a power struggle, with the lives of the runaways at stake.
