Simone Reviews

Simone joins numerous other movies in satirizing the dream factory, but it dares not tell us suckers how we fit into the big picture.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Jun 23, 2022

20 years ago, the premise of "Simone" seemed far-fetched but with the advancements in computer technology, it could prove to be the harbinger of things to come. It might be time for petulant on-camera talent to realize that everyone can be replaced.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 24, 2021

Simone has virtually no satiric edge. Given the present degraded state of the film industry, its subject matter, this is nearly a provocation.

Unfortunately, the moviemaker seems to have lost himself among the countless counterfeits of Hollywood.

It goes on a little long, but isn't terrible.

Fails on all points of plot, characterization, plausibility and realism...

Entertaining and provocative enough.

Low-key comedy about Hollywood absurdities is aided by some great acting talent and a lot of funny in-jokes.

Niccol makes what seems like a preposterous idea not only fresh and entertaining, but most of all reveals said idea to be not at all far removed from reality.

| Original Score: 3.5/4 | Jan 7, 2005

Para funcionar da melhor maneira, a sátira tem sempre que manter um pé na realidade. Porém, ao perder este contato com o mundo real, S1m0ne se transforma em fábula - e sua força desaparece.

| Original Score: 3/5 | May 17, 2003

...an above-average sophomoric effort from [director Andrew] Niccol.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Feb 25, 2003

If you're expecting a scathing commentary on our media obsessed times, then Simone isn't it. If you're expecting a funny comedy, then Simone isn't it either.

There was a time when I could say, 'I never met an Al Pacino movie I didn't like.' Oh, well-all things must pass.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Feb 8, 2003

A brilliant satire of the film industry.

Not only has the filmmaker elected to address some extremely well worn themes, he evidently has little new to say about them.
