Sleepaway Camp Reviews
Ugly, mean-spirited garbage. If it weren't for the shocking twist, this movie would not be on anyone's radar. Let's face it: some movies deserve to be forgotten.
Low effort and a ridiculous story. Nothing interesting about this at all.
Like other reviews the ending is what elevates this movie from being another run of the mill slasher into a true cult classic 80s horror flick
Campy and eerie. Ending shocks you like no other. I don't think anyone saw that coming. Story is also open for reading into it. Implications are there.
Sleepaway Camp (1983). At the beginning of the credits you can see the consequences of the ending with so many murders that they finally got the camp closed. The atmosphere at the camp is nicer than in the Friday The 13th part VI movie. Some like Ricky, Mozart have fun at the Camp, others are mean and deserve their punishments like Artie, Billy, Mel, Judy, Meg, Kenny, Paul. The good guys were Ronnie, Sussie, Gene, Jeff, Eddie and the lifeguard. It's the homophobic movie. The best characters are Ricky and his crazy mother Martha straight out of a sitcom, the crazy mother has nice physical features. Angela who is a man stares at Judy out of physical attraction. Angela/Peter is bisexual then she feels a crush on Paul the lascivious. It's a good movie, but Angel/Peter exaggerated almost at the end killing almost anyone who sees him as ugly.
The ending is definitely a WTF?! moment. Decent story telling through out.
This movie is a classic. The ending will always be as one of the greatest twist in Horror movie history.
Quite the messed up horror film. It was clear who the killer was early on but I did not expect the twist that was revealed at the end. Fairly solid for an 80s slasher film.
The acting was horrific. The story line was interesting.. and you’ll never seen an ending like it.
Maybe the best of the camp, death, fear horror films ever. Twiste ending is a shocker.
Arguably one of the best B-movie slashers ever made! All the memorable lines and scenes make it a great multiple time watch. Also one of THE most shocking endings in the history of cinema! Definite must watch!
Thought I'd try this slasher film because of the cult following it has. Discovered it's cult following is because of its "so bad, it's good" appeal. The story line isn't awful but the acting is. But worth the watch to say you've seen it, and for the very twisted ending.
If you are looking for "so bad it's good" kind of camp, this is for you. And that twist ending, WOW. Top 10 twist of all time!
Almost worth watching for one of the worst fake moustaches in horror movie history. But not quite. The acting and dialogue was so cheesy you could make a pizza with it. The insert shots during action sequences were laughably disjointed. All up a real amateur effort.
My favorite horror movie of all time and the ending was beatiful and shocking
"It's Meg, M-E-G" - hmmm?
It's number one in my top 10 twist reveals.
Terrible in general. Hard to believe that movies used to be so bad. I can not believe that some people think that this was actually good. The only "good" part is the scary look at the last scene, that was creepy in deed.
40 years old This qualifies as the best entry in a string of abysmal sequels which kinda fascinated me I remember watching this back at my second house and found it pretty solid for a slasher film of the 1980s You can definitely see it's taking notes from 'Friday the 13th' The focus is on a kids summer camp; Angela and her cousin Peter arrive She's a shy girl who keeps to herself but is constantly teased and joked about by her fellow campers A string of accidents start occurring and no one knows who it is Director Robert Hiltzik creates a level of childhood innocence while also creating a creepy atmosphere It works that you dont see the killer all the way Some of the attacks are so freaking brutal This camp really makes you feel uncomfortable around the adults, like it gets to a point where your questioning is everybody trying to a sexual predator? Yikes... The actress Felissa Rose who plays Angela is terrific and deeply unsettling with her cold, expressionless eyes And by the time it gets to that infamous ending wow....that's actually brilliant It's so freaky and sticks forever in your mind Many of the supporting characters do reach their breaking points trying to keep their composure during all these deaths True the film was met with a negative response at first and has been subject to controversy given the reveal at the end There's also some bad acting present with a slight cheesiness But the kills are creative and the child actors are decent Not to methion there's always a conversation going on about the effects of bullying and abuse of a child The psychological elements play a key factor too It also helps this holds a special place in the horror genre as far as the LGBTQIA community is concerned next to Dressed to Kill and Silence of the Lambs, so whatever the case is being divisive this ends up being 'Sleepaway Camp' is a low-budget horror flick not to be missed Sure it's problematic and familiar but stands out enough to leave an impression enough to inspire fan films even comedy sketches referencing it
