Tomris Laffly New York Magazine/Vulture Solace isn't a Silence of the Lambs sequel in which Hopkins gets to reprise the role of Hannibal Lecter. But he comes pretty damn close in this ludicrous murder mystery, which is stuck somewhere between a bad season of Dexter and a dated crime flick. Mary Ann F I rarely, if ever, give a one-star rating, but twenty minutes in, I can't stand another second. I'm not sure what's worse...the hackneyed, cornball dialogue or the amateurish filmmaking. It's all clichés and tropes, with that jumpy hip camerawork that was trendy on cop shows for about a minute. The premise of the film is decent, and the cast couldn't be better, but as the film went on, I began to feel bad for these talented actors, almost embarrassed. Dare I say it, but certain moments made me actually cringe. I'm done...signing off. Really felt like there were a lot of missed opportunities. The beginning kind of throws you into a story that has already begun, with little to no background, which I guess was the point. Kind of had a Seven feel to it, but the storyline disappointed a bit. It was slow at parts, and then it sped through other parts which should have been more at the forefront. The ending for me was a little clumsy and predictable, after all Clancy had the ability to run through all the scenarios from beginning to end.
