Starship Troopers Reviews

Apr 25, 2025

The book is better, but its a great movie that everyone should watch at least once.

Rarely does a movie blend political commentary with equal character development as masterfully as Starship Troopers. The all-American graduate enlisting for his country, only to be thrown into a bloodbath, is a trope we’ll known, but where Verhoeven breakes ground is in the young man’s realisation: it’s his callling.

I understand that this movie is a satire, but I felt it was a bit broken. There are moments when the film tries to add some drama but quickly shifts back to comedy. The first half flows smoothly, but the second half feels a bit rushed, particularly towards the end. It's the kind of movie that, once it reaches a certain point, must conclude, hence the rushed finale. That said, it's still very funny, and I can acknowledge its status as a "cult classic."

One of the best science fiction/war movies!!!

I had a great time with Starship Troopers. It’s campy as hell, total ‘90s cheese, but never feels dumb or cheap. Genuinely funny, too. The gore and violence hit hard without crossing into sleazy territory. Just pure, ridiculous fun that knows exactly what it’s doing. I really like this one.

Definitely one of best satire I've ever seen.

Starship Troopers is a great movie that everyone should get around to watching. While I love the movie, the director does not understand the book in which it was based on, but at least it makes the movie a bit more of its own thing.

One of the greats in the pantheon of Sci-Fi movies - amazing scale, effects that hold up even after all these years, characters that feel human in spite of the admittedly choppy acting, and more memorable lines and moments than you can shake a stick at. A movie like this could not be made today.

One of my top three All Time Favourite films. Visually, it looks stunning, even 30 yrs after it was released and I'm not just talking about the implausibly attractive cast. The single minded ferocity of arachnids is quite really quite scary...... but perhaps not as much as some of the humans..... It can be enjoyed on so many levels, a rip roaring sci fi epic, a clever take on the seductive appeal of the far right, a coming of age saga. Do yourself a favour, watch, relish and savour this awesome film.

A great sci-fi/comedy movie, with a fun story that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It sets bases for a franchise with good world building even if the sequel were not very good. The actors are fun to watch and the action scenes are pretty good.

Fun cheesy military drama on the surface, but fails to capture any meaning from the source material from what I've heard. Worth a watch for the pure 90's goodness.

A brilliant satire blended with action movie that went over many heads (mine included) at the time of release. Most of the effects still look great and you could argue the themes are more relevant than ever.

Somehow i missed this when it first came out but got into it maybe a year ago. It’s a classic. To anyone complaining about the gore being over the top, the actors being one dimensional pretty people or fascism celebrating violence: that was the point! This is how satire is done right. After about the 5th time on the 온라인카지노추천, i got to thinking about this film. Why use ground troops against the bugs, why not use aircraft to straff them, or bomb them from orbit. Surely it would have mad sense to use bigger ordanance against the big bugs, they carried around atomics after all. And how did the bugs know where Earth was and direct Asteroids to Earth, taking into account the distance and Earths Orbit, and the time it took to get to earth they must have launched them before they knew about humans, seeing as they were using warp drive to get thier system. And could not planetary defences detect and destroy the Asteroid that destroyed BA. In the end I reflected that the Government set up the bugs as a system to keep the masses under control, persuading the young to join a glorious crusade to keep them under control. Still I enjoyed watching it again.

Yeah nah I've seen long explanations of how this is meant to be a super clever satirical take on the fascist novel, but it's really just dumb and dull.

This movie is underrated. It's saved by the bell but all the teens are fascist cult members who believe violence solves everything. The cgi was amazing for its time and the practicals are fantastic. I'm doing my part! A perfect movie in my book.

Unfortunately, it has almost nothing to do with the amazing book by Robert Heinlein. It is a tantrum by Paul Verhoeven over what he thought was fascism in the book. You know, things like service before self and personal responsibility. It's a Great cult classic if you aren't a soy boy who finds it just too aggressively themed with testosterone and overt manly themes....like a willingness to protect other humans and put the greater good before self-interest.

This movie has aged well--it is just as watchable as when it was first released. The F/X are good for the period, there's a reasonable storyline, and the cautionary tale about fascism is even more relevant today than it was over 25 years ago. The acting is wooden and character development is almost non-existent, but this is at its heart a war movie and the trials and tribulations of combatants are universal. Don't bother with any of the sequels--they all lack the visual flair and heart that make the original endearing.

All around great B film! Definitely one of the best in the genre!

A pretty gripping and charming yet violent movie that I remember loving as a kid and still do as an adult! Denise Richards is drop dead gorgeous.
