Stonewall Reviews
I don't see many even knowing of this movies existence and it's probably emmerichs least popular movie but what I've heard from those who saw it i heard it being pretty offensive the dialogue sounds childish and bassically the event was turned into some coming of age story which could have been good considereding the last ones getting Oscar nominated like Belfast and Spielberg fabelmans but this as it's bordering around a real life event of a protest it's kind of not a good combination and the film is barely accurate except with showing the protest scene which the film shines and it has the looks of a good film that can be made for viewing as high drama art but doesn't get close to it and fails at least emmerich did midway which was much better and the main achievement for emmerich to do an awards glory film and earn cinemetic respectability this film on the other hand is not good and is just a missed opportunity C-
Far inferior to the 1995 film of the same name in every possible way.
Manages to "white wash" the roots. But the lead character's story kept my attention.
The plot attempted to show all the bad experiences the LGBT community members went through before Stonewall. It did this with an easy way for straight viewers to feel empathy.
Not factual enough to satisfy but powerful at times.
This movie captures a great moment in history without a terrific accuracy. The protagonist, a boring white guy, is likely far from being one of the key protagonists of the Stonewall riots. And he is by far the least interesting of the players. Inaccuracies aside, the movie is terribly dull at times. Many were the times that I felt like fast-forwarding. The acting is not always very convincing, the most serious case is the actor who plays Danny. Danny seems to have very limited facial expressions and his hair is always neatly combed regardless of the situations. All said and done, and as flawed as it is, the movie is not entirely bad, and is enough to evoke varied feelings about gay rights and how we have come a long way. . For that reason, and for that only, it may be worth the watch.
It was a really good movie that seems to have been review bombed by homophobes. It could have been done as a rent style musical that honestly could have beeen 5 stars. Overall pretty good.
This movie was not as terrible as the critics say it is. Sure, it historically accurate - but if you want accuracy watch a documentary. The direction and the acting were competent, though not outstanding. Jonny Beauchamp was actually pretty good as Ray. Again, the movie was not a masterpiece but it certainly was NOT terrible and I rate it a solid 6/10.
This film scored high on poor acting, terrible writing, and rampant clichés. Too bad, given the historical importance of the event. Don't waste your time.
What the fuck does this movie have to do with Stonewall. I can't imagine a worse movie especially if you were looking for a story about gay empowerment.
STONEWALL WAS STARTED BY BLACK TRANS WOMEN STONEWALL WAS STARTED BY BLACK TRANS WOMEN STONEWALL WAS STARTED BY BLACK TRANS WOMEN STOP ERASING BLACK QUEER HISTORY STOP ERASING BLACK QUEER HISTORY STOP ERASING BLACK QUEER HISTORY
A complete white washing of queer history that was a huge moment in the queer liberation movement lead by Trans women of color Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera.
Zero stars is not an option. Total revisionist, white-washing, trans-erasing, black-trans-erasing garbage. Run. Don't waste a second no this trash. Marsha P. Johnson and many other trans women of color deserve to be celebrated and venerated for their central role in launching the LGBTQIA+ rights movement.
This whitewash's a very important moment in LGBTQIA+ history. Where are the trans BIPOC? You know the ones that were at stonewall and start the riot against police brutality. Good on you ad men and studio heads you have given everyone revised version of history for the whit mom's to buy!
A white man saving the world, LOL...You better watch the true story guys... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pADsuuPd79E
I actually liked it! Jeremy Irvine is amazing as Danny! This movie is quite touching as well as well directed!
o elenco como um todo não é terrível, mas a historia é bem fraca, e, aparentemente, não muito baseada na realidade.
A film about a boy who leaves his hometown after he is publicly humiliated and proves his luck in Manhattan at @Christopher Street, blends in and then goes through the famous 1969 Stonewall riots. The fight could have been better represented, the film centers on the drama which was good but leaves out all the best events, and the characters based on real people have a very short screen time.
