Stopmotion Reviews
Spooky, occasionally terrifying, fun. Intriguing behind-the-scenes look into stop motion animation. The apartment looked straight outta Candyman.
I was very much looking forward to this from the trailer. It had a lot going for it, a good concept, genuinely really creepy set design for a focal point for the story, some strong performances, but in the end it felt like the film was made one or 2 drafts before the script was actually ready.
A very slow journey through someone going crazy due to trauma. Hard to watch.
This is one where I kept having better ideas of how the movie plot should go than it went. Was expecting more, so it ended up being kind of a let down.
Fine performances by the lead & by the little girl who is goading her on to more and more gore-ridden acts. Fun in a disgusting sort of way. Orin Domenico
While there are portions of this film that are too long, the confusion & horror make up for that. It has moments that grab & hold my attention intensely. If you enjoy psychological horror, this is for you.
Gross and hard to watch at times, but done in a really great way with amazing performances.
Very creative and visually impressive, if not very pleasant or substantial.
1 and 1/2 star for the Stop motion artistic element and creature design. Story didn't really flow well. Some scenes were just extreme grotesque without adding any value.
An excellent, creative, beautifully shot dive into mental illness. Not for the squeamish, but definitely for those who love nightmarish artistic filmmaking. Aisling Francoisi was awesome!
I’m shocked by all these negative audience reviews. The movie doesn’t hand everything to you on a platter, you have listen to and intellectually interpret the conversations, facial expressions and emotions of the characters to learn more about them and what drives them. You also need to pay attention throughout the movie to understand the ending, it’s not explained to you through some monologue. All of which personally I love and miss in most modern movies. The movie also, very successfully, slowly builds tension and unease, it is a psychological horror, not a jump scare slasher. It seems that is what a lot of people expect from a horror movie, so if that’s you, maybe do everyone a favour and skip this one. The sound design, animation, effects/gore and narrative of the main characters descent are all very well done, it’s been one of my favourite horror movies I’ve watched recently.
It's a slow burn that never quite gets hot enough. It's creepy with a creatively tense mood. The descent into madness is well played but you're left wondering where the other pieces of the story are. It may have been better had there been more chemistry or backstory to flesh out the characters. Realistic body horror. The stop motion and effects are amazing. Overall, it's worth a watch if you don't mind artistic and slow stories, but skip if you're after something that makes you want to keep the lights on when you get in bed.
Wow an absolute waste of 1.5 hours! It felt like 3 hours! What are these critics thinking. Literally nothing happens that is remotely scary or clever. Just pretentious artistic nonsense.
So/so in terms of plot or scares, but the stop motion sequences were gross in the best way. Worth a watch.
Not sure I enjoyed the ending, but weird enough to kind-a like it.
A stunning and visually unsettling creation, enhanced by the tasteful use of stop-motion animation. The film captivates with its striking visuals, where the lighting and costume design truly shine, creating a haunting yet mesmerizing atmosphere. Beneath the surface, it serves as a compelling allegory for a descent into madness, skillfully weaving moments of foreshadowing throughout the narrative to deepen its psychological impact.
Worst movie I have ever watched. Just because the idea is original or different doesn’t automatically make it good. How this has a 91, I have no idea. I the love movies and can find beauty or entertainment in almost anything…except this movie.
Some creepy stopmotion sequences, but that doesn't make up for an utter snoozefest of a movie. About as dull as it can get.
A stop motion artist's (Aisling Franciosi) reality begins to crumble as she attempts to free herself from her mother's influence. A dark and perverse film with an outstanding performance from Franciosi. I've yet to see a bad performance from this young lady. It's not your typical horror film and that may turn off the standard audience for those films. It's a suspenseful and atmospheric mimesis of the deterioration of a person's sanity.
