A BBC film that follows the slow, but increasingly dramatic, mental collapse of an airport security man. Whishaw gives an impressive performance but it is unlikely to appeal to a wide audience.

Great acting.......portrays mental health brutally

One of the worst films I've ever watched. The script is just a series of grunts and monosyllabic words, the actors are amateurish, all the characters are unlikeable and the story is banal. Every aspect of the film is so cheap. In addition the camerawork is awful, almost all of it is that shaky hand-held camera style that makes your eyes ache so that you have to look away to give them a break. A truly dreadful film. I believe it made $34444 worldwide! That indicates how poor this film is.

This film is WILD! Not always the easiest watch but it's bold and provocative in a way that is reminiscent of the great auteur films of the 70s. For me Ben Whishaw gives the performance of his career!

Very difficult to watch but mesmerizing performance by Ben Whishaw makes it worthwhile. Excellent supporting cast as well.

Good performances but such a bleak and depressing subject it is reserved for the most dysfunctional and disturbed people. No entertainment or insightful story line here.

Disjointed movie and makes no sense. Do bother to watch this; your time could be spent in better ways.

If you like films that are rooted in emotions as a plot (or The plot, in fact), this is for you. It's incredibly uncomfortable to watch but mesmerising at the same time. Ben Whishaw's performance kept me absolutely glued to the screen right until the very end. Freedom within the structure!

I have watched this film several times. I think it is amazing. Ben Whishaws performance is faultless as he spins into a psychosis. The handheld camera work is soooo good, catching every inflection of its main character, Joseph. No-one around him seems to pickup on the fact that he is in desperate need of help as he lurches from one situation to another. I watch, spellbound every time I view it.

I found this an utterly convincing depiction of someone's mental state crumbling under the pressures of life , eventually falling into psychosis. From the claustrophobic closeup handheld camera work , the various reactions from people as his behaviour became ever more at odds with 'normality' (starting with his possible obsession with testing his teeth, perhaps a safe escape from his increasing stress and detachment from the everyday world) to his relationship with his parents ,who aren't coping with life too well either ( we gradually learn and understand why that is), it has an insane inner logic. The stress, tension and frustration builds and builds until the inevitable conclusion. I remember feeling like this for a period in my twenties and I walked/ran/fell with Ben Wishaw every step. Quite harrowing really!

I'm not quite sure how, but Ben Wishaw manages to be completely convincing even while "acting" (in the League of Gentlemen sense). Much better than many films that explore the same territory, largely because it doesn't feel the need to explain. Definitely worth watching.

The suffocating and anxious feeling throughout the film alongside the shaky camera work made it very easy to the world through Joseph's eyes. Ben Winshaw's performance was outstanding, very physical and realistic. I think this film offers a lot to think about as Joseph's character raises some questions about his childhood, his strained relationship with his parents and what led him to his breakdown. Overall a cool film definitely worth watching

I loved it. Ben Whishaw is amazing. I feel like I need to come down after watching it. Great film. Didn't look at my phone once.

Gripping, each scene keeps you wondering when the protagonist will get caught. The message is questionable but Ben Whishaws performance cannot be faulted.

Utterly shattering. Whishaw is magnetic as the tragic Joseph. An awkward watch, but worth it.

I absolutely loved this movie Fabulous acting. I really felt his anxiety and frustration.

Awful plot without progression nor explanation of the different mood change whilst he still retaining normal thought process and never gets caught.... Also the fact he was able to get up right after being hit in an auto accidental.... Beggars version of Split ?

Want to watch a movie about a guy losing his mind? Well, here you go. "Descent into madness" movies are nothing new, from "The Shining" to "Taxi Driver" and scores of others that did it far better than "Surge." Played with manic abandon by Ben Whishaw, Joseph is a neurotic, discontented guy in London who works as a security checker at the airport, has a parlous relationship with his parents, and bites into a water glass just because he's frustrated with his prosaic life. One day, Joseph goes nuts at work and walks off his job. He goes to an attractive co-worker's flat to help her hook her laptop computer to her 온라인카지노추천, but when he runs to a nearby store to get a cable, his debit card doesn't work. He tries an ATM, but it eats his card. So he robs a bank (without a gun). Then, he fixes his friend's 온라인카지노추천, has sex with her, and robs another bank. Later, he checks into a luxury hotel, completely trashes the room (including ripping open the mattress and climbing inside), and he crashes a wedding party. Is he rebelling against the constraints of society, or is he just insane? I suppose that's the big, existential question the movie poses, but I honestly didn't care. The jerky, hand-held camera work is intended to portray Joseph's disjointed mental state, but it's nothing but artifice. In several scenes, the cameraman literally shakes the camera back and forth. Thirty minutes into this movie, I was dying for a mounted camera, or at least a Steadicam. This is the kind of movie that pretentious, artsy Sundance types consider "revolutionary" and "daring." (Whishaw won a Sundance Special Jury award for his acting). Four stars for Whishaw's committed performance. He really does knock himself out. One star for the annoying cinematography.

If you want to understand mania, watch this film.

It was good but also lost in it's overt pace. Nausea accompanies the jumpy camera work and that makes for a point drop to me. I get it. You want us to feel his angst. But I want to watch a movie not feel ill whilst doing so.
