Misguided teen thriller -- don't bother.

Helen Mirren's acting stands out in this mean-spirited dark comedy like an original Picasso in a paint-by-numbers art show.

Here you have a movie in which three teenagers go to a teacher's house and take her hostage. Either you go all the way with that premise, or you don't go there at all.

Current events outraced it in ways that Williamson, who usually anticipates trends, was apparently unable to incorporate in his narrative.

As a teen drama, it's soggy and predictable; as a thriller, it's a soggy and predictable teen drama; as a comedy, it's a soggy and predictable teen drama.

Helen Mirren makes a magnificent villain!

A wildly uneven and sloppily directed movie, full of clashing tones and undigested bits of superior films.
